Using WMI Classes to join worksation to domain
...GNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I have been working on a Kix script to automatically change the workstation name and join the workstation to the domain. I have written most of the script (which works quite nicely) except the joining to the domain part. I have been using WMI classes to change the worksation name, and was hoping to do the same with the domain join. The workstations are WinXP.
The code i'm using is
$objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" + "{impersonationLevel=impersonate, authenticationLevel=Pkt}!\\.\root\cimv2")
$colComputers = $objWMIService.ExecQuery (&q...

Limit user access to one worksation at a time
Hello,
Is there a mechanism in samba available to limit access
to workstations by users to only one at a time?
This is, that any given user can only be logged in at one
workstation at a time.

Worksatation Logon restriction
Hi ALL,
I'm trying to implement a workstation logon restriction policy (where I say
that a user only logon on my domain from a specific station) through Samba
with Win 9X client machines, like Windows NT/2000 Servers. Is it possible
?!? I found on some lists diff files to implement Time logon restriction,
where I say what time my user can logon on my network, but nothing about

Prints ok, but says "Access denied, unable to connect". win2k and samba 2.2.1a
I have a small Samba 2.2.1a plus Win2k workgroup. Samba is running on
Redhat
7.2.
There is a networked laserjet 5000 using a static IP which I can print
to
successfuly from the linux box, and from the win2k workstations via the
queue
on the linux box.
The weird thing is that, on the win2k worksations, if I double click on
the
printer icon the status of the printer is reported as
"Access denied, unable to connect". Yet it works???
Hello, I've been having this same problem with several of our laserjet
5000s on our network. Did you find the cause of the problem? Any help

Samba performance on Fast Ethernet networks when linked to Win95

Win95 Workstation -> SERVER 24 sec
When doing this transfer, the LED from the network card is flashing all

blinks from time to time.
Using Linux ftp from a Linux Worksation, I got the same 12 sec when

very rare collisions.

Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
...(for example, settings for a different
group)?
If this assumption is right, it would mean that the only way to get a
feature-rich policy ("a la" W2k, that are really more powerfull than WinNT
policies) is creating the policy in a W2k server and login afterwards from a
W2k worksation to obtain a single .POL file.
I expect there is a way of getting a W2k policy without installing and
configuring a W2k server and replacing it with Samba afterwards, so
Where are my assumptions wrong?
What is the best way for getting feature-rich W2k policies in a Samba PDC

[Bug 458] New: sshd crashes with "fatal: mm_malloc: size too big"
...Version: 3.5p1
Platform: MIPS
OS/Version: IRIX
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: sshd
AssignedTo: openssh-unix-dev at mindrot.org
ReportedBy: us- at gmx.de
When I build openssh-3.5p1 on a 32bit worksation running irix 6.5.18 sshd will
crash with the error message "fatal: mm_malloc: size too big" on each login
attempt. When I build it on a 64bit orign200 with the same OS version it works fine.
The problem seems to be the constant ULONG_MAX which is assigned to SIZE_T_MAX
in defines.h. I...

Remote command
Hi all,
I'm new on this list, I tried to find the solution or ideas about my doubt
but I didn't know what look for.
I was thinking to develope a system that is a "Basic Administration" of a
Linux Server, the "idea" is: an application in Java running on a worksation,
to consult how much space has on disk of server, the application send a
command to the server using the SSH Server to send the command but the
output of the command must be displayed on workstation screen... Do you
think this is possible ?
Have more details but the basic to start it is thi...

problem clearing the "Read Only" attribute from Windows XP
I am trying to configure a share using Samba version 2.2.7a, and have
not been able to clear the "Read Only" attribute of created folders from

In smb.conf, I have: read only = no, and am mapping the archive, system
and hidden attributes to the Linux x bits.
I have set the permissions for all users to allow changing attributes
and permissions, yet the bit always returns

Smbmount problem - 2.2.7a-8.9.0
Hello,
I'm running samba 2.2.7a-8.90 on a RH 9.0
I have installed this samba from an "src.rpm" to include some options
(--with-winbind , etc, ...) and joined my system to the WINNT domain. So I'm
able to acess any linux "share" from my NT worksation ... but when I try to
run a script that "smbmount" some windows share ... the screen seems to be
blocked and some of the share are accessible and the other not.
I run the same script on a RH 7.3 (samba 2.2.7-3.7.2) without any problem.
Does anyone have an idea on this subject ?

Samba with pdbsql (postgres) as backend - Machines can't join/login domain
...join the domain, even with
the machine account created, I can't do it. I also tried to first join
the domain using the normal samba configuration, and added the machine
account manually to the database, restarted samba with pdbsql
configuration, and tried to login on the domain from the windows
worksation but again I have no success.
With all the tests I did, I can just realize that the problem is about
the machine account lookup on sql backend. Looking at the pdbedit tool I
saw that my workstation account on pdb_pgsql was being returned as an
user account (account flags), so I fixed it changing...

joining a w2k machine to a samba domain
...39;ve hitting against
since yesterday afternoon.
I've set up a samba server (samba 2.2.3a on RH7.2) as a PDC as per the
combined samba howto docs. I have no problem joining Win9x machines to
the domain but cannot add a w2k machine to the domain. It always fails
with the message (on the W2K worksation):
login failure: unknown user name or bad password
I have atached my smb.conf file. The way in which I am trying to add the
w2k computer to the domain:
(1) manually created the machine trust account on samba server
(2) created a user (ntadmin) whose primary group is root on samba server

W2k, SP4 and Domain logon
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi all.
Yesterday I had the funny idea of upgrading all my Windows 2000 Professional
worksations (20 W2k boxes more or less) to SP4.
I run Samba 2.2.8a on a glorious RedHat 6.2, and after the endless
download-and-reboot I found with no W2K client able to logging in.
I skimmed the mail archives, tried a bunch of suggestion from really a lot of
postings (a big thank to all who contribute...

samba not logging windows user names
Hi,
Is it possible that samba logs the windows username of the person that
is connecting to a share. On many shares I use 'force user = testuser'.
In the log I only see the messages "connect to service test as user
testuser". This gives me only the username smbd should become.
I also tried logging to a file which contains '%U' but this give me very

Roaming profiles problem
Hey all,
I've got a few WinXP workstations logging into a 2.2.4pre (CVS from April
30th, around 8 p.m. PDT) PDC, and I'm having some sort of odd problem with
roaming profiles.
The XP workstations can successfully (it seems) retrieve and save thier
profiles to the samba box; however, if I log off a user, say "gary", from
one workstation, and travel to the next one, and log in

Replace SBS2003 with Samba4
Hello all,
I'm currently investigating the option to completely replace a SBS2003 DC
with a Samba4 DC. My research (mostly on samba.org guides) shows that it is
feasible, however I'd like to get feedback from the community on my goals.
Current status:
A Windows SBS 2003 is the PDC and a W2008 R2 server is acting as secondary
DC. Domain operational level is 2003.
There are ~40-50

Replace SBS2003 with Samba4
...kstation's machine admin
ID and password to be able to log in once you're off the domain.
Physically connect your new Samba4 AD/DC to the real office LAN and boot. One by one, join each
workstation to the domain.
IMPORTANT! time synchronization needs to be maintained between the AD/DC and worksations. Of
course, make sure ntpd is running on the AD/DC. However, Windows does not play nicely with ntpd,
see: https://www.meinbergglobal.com/english/info/ntp-w32time.htm
To fix this, log into the workstation as the domain administrator, get to a command prompt, and
enter the following commands:
