Workplaces / Desktop on panel
Hi, I've just installed CentOS 5.2, but could not find a workplaces (which I can switch between them) icon in the panel. I am running in GNOME (it was desktops in KDE). I've looked at References and Administration, but could not find the workplaces to add to the panel. Where can I find it and how can I add it to the panel? Thank you. Jim

Sweave
Dear All, I have both R 2.80 and Scientific Workplace 5.5 installed on my computer. I copied the following commands from HTML help provided by R: testfile <- system.file("Sweave", "Sweave-test-1.Rnw", package = "utils") Sweave(testfile) I then compile Sweave-test-1.tex file using Scientific Workplace 5.5. Nope? just tried it, at this time it's relative to whatever directory you call `ssh` from. Which if everybody who used this directory kept it in the same place, wouldn't be a big issue? but since I'll bet everyone I'm working with keeps this reposit...

Host key verification (known_hosts) with ProxyJump/ProxyCommand
...ng known hostkeys indexed by site *and IP* might still turn > out to be bothersome.) Ahh okay, so you can have a separate `UserKnownHostsFile` per host entry. The situation we have is our workstations' .ssh/config actually imports config files from elsewhere (git repo): Include /home/me/workplace/ops/config/ssh/prod/* Include /home/me/workplace/ops/config/ssh/dev/* Include /home/me/workplace/ops/eng-ssh/*-config So assuming one of those files was /home/me/workplace/ops/eng-ssh/bigcust-config # Bastion router on the site, VPNing back to the office Host bigcustomer-00123-bne-md01 Hos...

Palm OS port
hello all, At my workplace, our colleague Mukesh has just completed a port of speex 1.2.1 to Palm OS. He had to write a couple of mathlib functions, but the trunk remains unchanged. It works quite well, I was wondering if there will be any interest in this port in the distribution. - farhan

Unfortunately when I try to load the get a message saying that the file is corrupted. It's a big file, but my experience suggests that this normally refers to a problem at the beginning or end...

raster plot is empty
Dear R-help, I have a problem plotting maps using the raster package when I use R on my workplace server, but not when I use my own desktop. I suspect the server version must be missing something and was wondering if anyone would have any ideas. The problem occurs after library(raster) f <- system.file("external/test.grd", package="raster") r <- raster(f) plot(f)...

Security of ssh across a LAN, public key versus password

As has already been pointed out, if someone manages to break into your workplace machine, the (past) security of the rest of the network is usually not the most pressing concern, much less your only one. But let's stick to that, for the sake of the argument. Subverting your workplace machine - the same account you log in as, or even a superuser - gives the attacker a l...

package usage statistics.
Dear useRs, Is it possible to get the R package usage statistics? That is, does R contain any tools to estimate which packages were used and how often? I am going to temporary change the workplace and packing the data and their processing scripts on my computer in order to continue my projects. During my work on the current workplace I periodically have had installed new R packages, have investigated them and used them in my work or did not used them, depending on their functiona...
