Detecting lossy encodes
...humans localise very low
frequencies, but they probably use things like
chest cavities and not ears. However, this is
usually irrelevant because, in most listening
rooms, localisation of low frequencies is
screwed up by standing waves. And this is
why the typical listening room only needs one
sub-woofer.
As Brian pointed out, the other channels in
5.1 (or whatever) are all full range. If every
system had effective bass management, the
LFE channel would be redundant for music
(with the exception of the cannons at the end
of the 1812 Overture). Whether the
sub-woofer is redundant or not for music...

Comparison between Ogg Vorbis and LAME

cable!!!!).
I also have a Technics SU-Z2 1977 amp, which I\'d like to use but the amplifier
is burnt, and when you raise the volume the left channel sounds terrible. The
speakers that came with that are fine, though, and sound amazingly good (and
much louder, at 1.20 M tall with a 28cm woofer). I might use the Sansui amp to
power them.
Method:
For graphical analysis, I selected the entire waves in Cool Edit Pro 1.2
(Alt+Z) and I scanned them with a window of 1024 and a Blackmann-Harris
function. I hope these are right.
For hearing, blind testing consisting of listening to the ori...

output from vorbis and convolve it with inverse of these filters and get
pretty much the orignal input back or you could also convolve it to match
your own speaker layout and get better results than you would with the
orignal 5.1 material.
My only problem right now is with the LFE (subwoofer channel). I had been
intending to just mix it into the W signal, which I think matches the
intent of the channel. Obviously this really couldn't be recovered on
decode.
My alternative is to use a seperate LFE channel in the vorbis stream,
which is just ugly.
So, what I'm looking for is so...

Centos laptop support
Today I found myself in need of a laptop to run Centos on. And that simple statement led to an all-day odyssey.
My original plan was to purchase a laptop and install Centos 6 on it. I went to Staples and tried booting it on every model of laptop that they had in the store. They all come with Windows 8 installed, and for the edification of anyone who doesn't know this (I didn't until
