Woodpeckers Revisited
Just when I thought I couldn't be wrong, I was wrong. We have woodpeckers that drill into the arial telephone cables, and water seeps through the holes and partially grounds the tip and/or ring wires causing hum. I thought the hum/buz on my lines was a telco problem. The Qwest HQ noise team assures me that my lines are within spec. Sure enough, when I listen on th...

Limit login attempts per connection?
Dovecot allows a large number of login attempts per connection. I'd like to reduce that number to, say, 1, and let my firewall keep the ducks at bay, but I can't find anything in /etc/dovecot.conf or by googling. How do I do it? Do I need to patch the source? dovecot-1.1.10-1.x86_64 on CentOS 5.4 -- ____________________________________________________________________ TonyN.:'

Display a warning message at a certain time ?
Hi, I'm currently installing a CentOS 5 desktop as a public internet access point. The machine shuts down every day automatically at 22:30. Is there a way I can display a message in GNOME at 22:15 warning the user that the machine will shutdown in 15 minutes ? Any suggestions ? Niki Kovacs

trying to combine static userdb with LDAP passdb with per-user userdb_mail and userdb_home
...e i should just forget about mail for local system users and just user `prefetch' userdb. I'm just mazed about dovecot userdb and passdb queries. It so powerful but also so hard to understand. I would appreciate any help, since I peck dovecot authentication and userdb-passdb queries like woodpecker starting from last week. Do I understand right that dovecot during userdb fetches Unix UID which will be used to access data on disk? I just want postfix (uid=89) to allow to do this. Here is `dovecot -n' output: # 2.0.11: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 2.6.18-238.1.1.1.el5 x86_64 Cen...

What I am doing with Puppet.
Hi, Luke asked me if I was willing to share what I am doing with the Puppet user community. So here goes: I am using puppet to manage one host right now. While that isn''t a good advertisement for Puppet''s scaling capabilities, I find it interesting because I built my single node (personal mail, svn, ci and web server) with puppet where I could (clearly there was some
