Fixing filenames with directories with spaces in the names
...e "$old"
new="$(echo $old | sed 's/\*/\-/')"
done
I'm trying to take out some stupid Macintosh things - in this case
filenames with asterisks but I have others like tilde's and probably
others that I haven't come across.
Anyway, $FILENAME has...
/tmp/New Woman In Field/*NEW woman in field.psd
/tmp/New Woman In Field/*NEW woman in field 2.eps
/tmp/New Woman In Field/*NEW woman in field 2.psd
and the echoes are broken with spaces like this (which of course doesn't
work)...

FLAG_BOOLEAN_ANY_CASE does not work
I have found that lower cased boolean operators such as "and" or "or"
does not work. Of course I never forget setting FLAG_BOOLEAN_ANY_CASE flag.
QP seems to treat them as terms.
Just look at the following tests regardless of search results!
$ python search.py -v woman AND man
Performing query 'Xapian::Query((woman:(pos=1) AND man:(pos=2)))'
0 results found
$ python search.py -v woman and man
Performing query 'Xapian::Query((woman:(pos=1) AND and:(pos=2) AND man:(pos=3)))'

how to test whether two slopes are sign. different?
...want to test whether the slopes (e.g. determined with
lsfit) of two different population are significantly different, how do
I test this (in R). Say for example, I found out what the slope
between age and number of books read per year is for two different
populations of subjects (e.g. 25 man and 25 woman), say using
lsfit. How can I tell whether the slopes are different in R. (And how
would I do it for regression coefficients?)
Thanks a lot for your help.

La pregunta es: ¿Cómo obtengo miC a partir de df[1]?
Gracias.

Great Find
Just a good joke
An old couple went into a restaurant and ordered something to eat: one Coca Cola and one portion of French fries. The old man sat down and the woman, his wife, sat opposite him, and he began to divide the Coca Cola into two glasses, half for him and half for his wife. He divided all the French fries half-and-half. He gave half to his wife and kept half for himself. Then he began to eat and drink,and the woman just drank but didn't eat.

Crossed lines - a worrying problem.
Hi all,
I have just received the following e-mail from an Asterisk user:
"I just made a call via BT to a mobile. Then an incoming call came in and
Ann else answered it - it made my call go completely fuzzy and I could hear
what the woman on the other line was saying to Ann but I couldn't hear my
conversation! When Ann's call finished - mine went even fuzzier and all I
could hear was computer and internet noises."
The setup is:
Asterisk box AMD Duron 1600, 256MB
Slackware 10

PESQ results for speex 1.0.3
Hello!
Some time back, I added the Speex protocol to my version of
VOCAL (www.vovida.org, VOIP tool).
Recently, I also added PESQ (automated voice quality testing
algorithm) to my tool and have been running some tests on a clean
network. The source file is a woman reading some phrases meant
to test various aspects of codecs...
Speex has a respectable result of 3.67
Some other codecs I've tested:
g.729: 3.78
g.726-16: 1.6 (very poor quality rating)
g.726-24: 3.5
g.726-32: 3.98
g.711: 4.21
Take it easy,
Ben

Xen on OpenSSI?
Any thoughts on running Xen on OpenSSI? We have an app we''d like to
cluster but is expressly and completely incompatible with the OSes that
OpenSSI are supported on, but if we can run several Xen domains on a
cluster we can run those OSes and, naturally, that app.
Thoughts?

identify duplicate from more than one column
Hi all,
I've searched everywhere to try to find out how to do this and have had no
luck. I am trying to construct identifiers for couples in a dataset.
Essentially, I want to identify couples using more than one column as
identifiers. Take for instance:
obs unit home z sex age
1 015029 18 1 1 053
2 015029 18 1 2 049
3 015029 01 1 1 038
4 015029 01 1

the North had finally, after years of ignominious defeats, gotten a

Update to question about skipping at the end of the FLAC file
...finished ripping a bunch of FLAC files from CDs through CDex by using
an external encoder, sending the wav file to stdin (FLAC 1.1.2) and I get this
weird 1/2 second repeat right at the end of the song that is from a second or
two from the end... for example, Shania Twain sings "I feel like a woman!...
a wom..." ... I get that extra "a wom..." at the end. Every song I ripped
this way has this problem, just repeating a little bit at the end of the
track. I just finished spending days collecting together 3000 tracks...
please tell me I don't have to rerip them all!
