Howto? 2 interfaces, same network, same gateway
Hello Summary: I have ifplugd managing eth0 and wlan0 (both dhcp). When I plug in the cat5 (which brings up eth0) applications which have already bound to wlan0 stop working, obviously because wlan0 for some reason is unable to get non-local packets out that interface. I figured if poodoze is able to have both interfaces working, then linux mus...

Netinstall wants to use wlan0
Hi, Folks -- I'm setting up an Acer Aspire 5250 as a Christmas gift, CentOS 6 netinstall insists on trying to configure wlan0 but I'm using a wired DSL connection, consequently netinstall fails and only offers the option to Retry. How can I get it to bypass the wlan0 idea and go straight to eth0...? Thanks, -- -- Jeff -- <http://www.wellnow.com> "There's nothing left in the world to prove. Al...

New wireless controller
...sus PCE-n13 wireless card into one of my CentOS 5.6 systems. It uses the RaLink 2680 chip set and I was able to get the driver loaded using modprobe rt2x00pci.ko. I saw no error and now see that the module is loaded along with mac80211 and other dependencies. Now I need to know how to create the wlan0 device. I can find nothing via Google searches on how to create that device. I assumed the driver would do that upon loading, but now I expect some ioctl to the driver command may be required. I created an ifcfg-wlan0 file, but of course ifup wlan0 always returns device not found. Can somebody...

CentOS 6, Broadcom, missing wlan0
...we speak. On my CentOS 6, with BCM4311 802.11b/g. I installed: hybrid-portsrc_x86_32-v5_100_82_38.tar.gz With NetworkManager shut off, I see: #lsmod | grep "b43\|ssb\|wl" wl 2635904 0 lib80211 4858 1 wl and I try to start with: ifup wlan0 I put debug in the script, following into nested scripts, and see that it ultimately fails because: ip -o link fails to return wlan0 . I rechecked the MAC address, which is correct. Also ifconfig and iwconfig do not see wlan0 . Also, the wlan0 light on the box doesn't turn from red to g...

[Bridge] Misbehaving bridge...
...using the HostAP drivers. I read in the FAQ page that some wireless cards cannot act as bridges because they are unable to spoof MAC addresses. I do not believe this to be the case with my card. I am able to change my MAC address without problems by issuing the following command: ifconfig wlan0 hw ether XXXXXXXXXXXX The card functions normally with a fake MAC address. It'll even show up on my access point's station list as the fake address. So am I doing something wrong? Should this work, or did I misunderstand the FAQ? Is altering the MAC address a thorough enough test of...

HTB classifying
I am trying to shape a client (somewhat advanced). This is my target: Client is 192.168.2.224. I would like to allow him to download with 500000 bits/sec in general. But, for a specific port(say 22), i would like him to download with 300000 bit/sec only. The problem is that my configuration (maybe wrong) allows him to download with 800000 bit/sec. (500000 generally + 300000 on port 22) I thought

[Bridge] Destination Host Unreachable
Hopefully this is a simple answer. I am new to setting up bridges on a linux system. Here is what I have set up: Laptop directly connected to the eth0 port on the bridge (A Soekris 4521 board). The otherside of the bridge is a wirelass lan card (SMC2532b-w) as wlan0. The wlan0 is setup in managed mode to communicate to my test ap2000. When I do a 'brctl showmacs br0' on the bridge it shows a bunch of mac addresses. So, I beleive the problem of using a wireless card is not relevant in this case. If I am wrong please let me know. If I do a ping fr...

Network isolation for KVM guests
...> https://libvirt.org/firewall.html > > -- > Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! > Thanks Nux and Kristian but I don't see if these solutions will be really efective in my environment. Let me to explain. In this host I three physical interfaces: eth0, eth1 and wlan0. eth0 is connected to my internal network. eth1 is connected to a public router and wlan0 is connected to another public router. wlan0 and eth1 are bonded to provide failover Internet connections. CPU doesn't supports pci passthrough (pci passthrough would solve my problems). I need to depl...

Broadcom Wifi Problem
...ering that there was a driver problem with the old Fedora partition it replaced, I followed instructions founs at: http://repecka.net/en/2011/04/19/install-broadcom-bcm4311-802-11bg-wlan- drivers-on-centos/ and http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/README.txt modifying for that fact that I use wlan0 rather than eth1. The wifi is now dead-in-the-water. The wlan light now remains red, and neither ifconfig nor iwconfig show any sign of wlan0 (contra to the situation before I installed the new driver). It still works in the WinXP partition. Suggestions for my next step in fixing this would be m...
