Win XP-home connecting to Samba, ahhh, please help!
I'm about ready to pull my teeth out over this. I just installed Red
Hat 8.0, have not used Linux much in the past, which is why I went with
Red Hat, sposeto be easier, more support etc.
The network the Linux box resides in has 2 WinXP-home computers, and a
Win200 Pro computer. They are all sharing all files, no passwords, no
domain, just a workgroup called "ESR".
I just want the

Error when using mount with smbfs
....to.search" and it
didn't find anything either.
I can use smbclient with no probs, can transfer files back and forth
and it works flawlessly, but, when I try to use mount with smbfs or
smbmount, it continuously gives me an error. See below.
mwhitelinux:/media# mount -t smbfs -o username=winusername
//corpfps02/dfs/Net /media/net
Password:

SMB connection failed
mwhitelinux:/media# smbmount //corpfps02/dfs/Net /media/net username=nemo
Password:
6990: session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)

...vigated by Samba at all.
Losing the file names is a major problem, but folders being backed up
empty is even a bigger one. To show you how I do the job, here are
the commands that I use:
mount -t smbfs "\\\\$server\\$share" "/mnt/$server/$share" -o
uid=xyz,gid=xyz,ro,username=WinUserName,password=abc
rsync -W -r -l -t -x --force --exclude-from=excludes.txt -z
--modify-window=10 "/mnt/$server/$share" "backup/$server/$share"
umount "/mnt/$server/$share"
How can I solve this problem? The ideal solution I'm seeking is the

I have also setup unix account session auth via libpam_ldap, libnss_ldap
like described here:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/ldap-howto.xml
Some things i dont understand:
1. How is the unix password set for the windows users?
When i su <winusername> it is not accepting the win password.
I also tried editing the unix password via ldap-account-manager but also
with no luck.
Is a unix password set in general when creating new accounts?
With my unixuseraccounts migrated to ldap via migrationsscipt (the ones
used in the gentoo article) it is...
