XP SP2 - winlogon.exe crashes
==============
The problem:
==============
I am in the testing stages of implementing a Samba domain.
My user is logging on to a standard win xp SP2 desktop, with the samba pdc,
supplying the credentials. The logon screen disappears and an "SAS window:
winlogon.exe - Application Error" box pops up on the Win XP screen. If I
click OK the machine reboots.
My user can log onto the Debian Sarge server using ssh fine. My other users
in the same ldap Users container can log onto the open-xchange part of this
server fine.

Workstation crash after login to PDC
Finally figured out why I couldn't login to my samba 3.0.2a PDC, I had a
mismatch in one of the SID's. Now that I have that figured out my
workstations crash when logging in after applying the personal settings.
The error is in a window titled SAS window:winlogon.exe - Application Error
with the message being instruction at 0x00450056 referenced memory at
0x00000000 the memory could not be written. That is on the WinXP
workstation. The Win2K workstation just reboots. Anyone have any ideas?

You mean the default Default Domain policies.
No, but i've never done that and im using these so im not deleting them :-)
And stupid me i forgot the most important one.
Open the registry editor and locate the below path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Create the DWORD value If the WaitForNetwork, if the value is not exists. Set the value to 1.
Close the registry editor and restart the computer
I've set that by GPO, wait for network is very important.
The start of computers with SSD is so fast, network the not ready yet.

Deleting Roaming Profiles
Hello,
If you don?t want (Who wants ?) to save roaming profiles under
Winnt\Profiles, than you have to change, or create (if not exist) a
registry string:
Run regedt32.exe and locate the key entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Add (or change) the following string:
DeleteRoamingCache
Standard value is 0, it has to be 1
All the Best.

roaming profiles - filesyncing problem with 3.0.10
...the debian-list experienced the same problem : http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2005/01/msg01329.html
Using the rpm for 3.0.10 for RedHat 9.0 the upgrade from 2.2.8 showed no problems/errors.
Clients:

Reg-Hack:HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT
\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\DeleteRoamingCache = 1 ( already used under 2.2.8 )
So, does anybody experience similar problems with 3.0.10 ?

[OT] DeleteRoamingCache=1 doesn't work
...mba server which I set so that Windows clients have roaming
profiles. It works but when the user logs off, his personal folder in
C:\Documents and Settings remains there, although i created the key
DeleteRoamingCache (as a DWORD) in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon
and set it to 1.
It seems a problem with the Windows client, but I'm not sure so I posted it
here in case it's a problem with the Samba server.
Has this happened to any of you?

is the domain admin password stored on the local machine?
I just wanted to know if the domain admin password is stored on the
local machine, when that machine joins the domain?
Or is it just used to authenticate, and it is not stored anywhere on the
workstation?

Disabling storeing of cached profiles?
Hello!
I know that this is not samba related, but may be some one knows a
quick answer:
When using profiles, stored on a well running samba-2.0.0beta2 PDC,
the NT PC's cache the profile during a user session. As this
profile is not deleted on the PC and we have a lot of users with only
few PC's we need a lot of diskspace for this old profiles.
Is there a way (Registry Key, ..) that

This is a copy of the smb.conf files from one of our servers which uses the
netlogon and winlogon functions to achieve roaming profiles.
I have also included the setup for the /etc/skel directory which is used
when creating new users under Redhat Linux. This solves the
problem of a bunch of junk files showing up where the user can see/nuke
them and presents the user with a nice clean directory...

Advice on Folder Redirection for users that work remotely
...t; Would someone be able to advise us on how to handle 'Folder Redirection'
> for users that work remotely?
I'm currently using roaming profiles, with quota, and with a careful
exclusions from profiles by folder redirection and 'HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ExcludeProfileDirs'.
Clearly we get some troubles, but manageable.
Also: offline file (Client Side Cache, or CSC, in MS lingo) are enabled by
default even on Win11, and get activated automatically for all redirected
folders.

I've got several machines 98SE machies, but not all, that reboot after you
enter your username and password on the login screen and hit enter. No

consistently. The rest do it only sometimes or for most of the workstations,
work just fine. I'm using a Samba 3.0.6 as a NT

The worst problem is when I logout of my Windows 2000 desktop. While the Win2k machine says it is "Saving Settings..." it will come up with an error box giving me a fatal exception in application unknown. The message box title says something like: "SAS Window: winlogon.exe"
At about that same time I get an error (or multiple errors) in the Samba log file for that machine stating,

documentation for configuring folder redirection
I believe that once you have roaming profiles configured, all you need to do
to configure folder redirection is set some registry keys. I'd like to turn
that job over to our Windows sys admin. Can someone provide me with their
favorite documentation for configuring folder redirection? Keep in mind I am
passing this link along to a Windows sys admin. Our backend is samba 3.6.3
