Vedr.: Re: Migration from WindowsNT to Samba
I was thinking of using rsync, since it has the ability of mapping the
written user-name instead of using UID's. Anyone know how this work on
WindowsNT? I've read, that CygWin hasn't the ACL's properly implemented
yet?
Does another "cross-platform" exist, that can map between the written
usernames?

selected and copied at once or even in what order. Whatever the reason,
source files should never be modified when doing a copy. Any help would be

Open Files
I have been messing with this and it seems to work, but I would like to hear
if it does or not from the people that have created it.
On a WindowsNT machine I have three directories shared out READONLY. These
three directories are mapped to users machines and then they run programs
out of them. There are ALWAYS people using files in here. At times I have
to update the programs in there and I need to overwrite the files that are
in there. No...

Migration from WindowsNT to Samba
Hi
I am about to migrate our corporate network from NT to Samba and Linux. But
I have stumbled upon a problem : How do I transfer the files from NT to
Samba and preserve the ownership? The users will be using the same
usernames as before.
Are there a script or program, that can transfer these rights? Or is it the
hard way? 20Gb of data, nearly 100000 files.

restoring roaming profiles
...ain with slightly different settings, roaming
profiles stopped working.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_roaming_profiles contains
a suggestion (see Troubleshooting roaming profiles) that gets them
working again - deleting the user subkey from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
Unfortunately this requires logging onto each client machine, removing
the subkey, logging in as the user to recreate the subkey then logging
out again. Next I have to log back in as a different (administrative)
so I can change the location of the user's local p...

codepage-conversion for smbclient
Hi list,
I've browsed through the archives, but I didn't find a answer for
this:
I use smbclient to access a windowsNT 4.0 server.
I get only '?' for filenames which contains Umlauts.
F.e., a file called "Verkn?pfung" is displayed as "Verkn?pfung".
I use following mount-string:

I installed perl from the WindowsNt Recource Kit CD (Sept. 98) and
encountered the same problem:
Scan couldn't open the file
- because perl did not produce it
- because perl could not find it's library files
- because the installation procedure did not copy the library files to my HD
- and instead created registry entries po...

Winbind help
Hi. I'm not subscribed to the list, so if you can help, please e-mail me
or CC me in the response.
I've been using Samba for quite a while, and just set up a 2.2.2 server
with winbind support. Console logins and SMB access work fine, wbinfo -t
reports "Secret is good", and wbinfo -r domain+ntuser shows the right
group number. In fact, the UID/GIDs are translated properly when

Lost backslashes in parse()
I'm comparing R-1.3.0 on Solaris 2.6 to R-1.3.1 on WindowsNT. The following
5-line script returns TRUE on Unix but FALSE on NT:
fnam <- tempfile()
file.create(fnam)

expr <- parse(text=txt)
eval(expr)
The issue seems to be that backslashes get lost in the p...

font size for pairs()
Dear R-Help,
I'm having some trouble with the font size in the pairs() function. It
seems to be impossible to alter the font size for the variable labels that
run down the diagonal. I've tried all the cex.??? parameters to no avail.
I'm using R0.65.0 on windowsNT. If the simple answer is to upgrade to the
latest version of R, then please accept my humble apologies for troubling you.
Simon Bond.

File names and e-acute char
Hi.
Samba 1.9.15p8 under IRIX 6.1 (yes I know, it's old stuff ...)
The susers on Windows 9x/WindowsNT just put their strange file name or
directory name (like /usr/people/mesure_?t? ) on the IRIX. However, from
the IRIX side, it's impossible toaccess to such files/directory.
What's more, my ARkeia backup client stalls on such a name and fouled up
my backup database...
NB: Oops: for those t...

Password server loop
...on a HP-UX system running NIS for both
host and UID/password resolution. When a client tries to access
the shares, in the client log file on the server we get the
message:
Password server loop - disable password server rcnfs password
server not available.
The server is rcnfs and the clients are WindowsNT systems.
Can anyone shed any light on what might be causing this??
Thanks
