DBF database hangs up, when running from Samba 3.0.14 share
...'ve set up a Samba 3.0.14a-2 server running as a PDC on Fedora Core 4 (in fact, Samba server was a part of FC4 distribution). I've set up a share and then I've moved all data for this application on to that share. The problem is that the application hangs right after is was launched on Windows98SE machine, giving no error messages. Entries in a log file for this particular machine are to messy for me, when I set debug level on 3 or 4. What is interesting, the same application from the same share is running pretty well on Windows XP Pro SP2 machine (of course, the same user is logged in to d...

"Rcmd SHLIB" does not work
R-users E-mail: r-help at stat.math.ethz.ch Hi! I would like to produce DLL files to be linked to R objects on Windows98SE. The source files are written in Fortran77. I input the command below on R console. Rcmd SHLIB aaa.f The result is: Error: syntax error Does this mean that "Rcmd SHLIB aaa.f" contains symtax error, or "aaa.f" contains it? Or do I need to do something else before this pr...

"obey pam restrictions" and encrypted passwords
...everybody, I?m using Red Hat 7.3 with Samba setup as a PDC, and I?m having a doubt. I am studying the directive "obey pam restrictions" because I would like to limit the number of logins with the same id. The documentation provided by SWAT tells me that encrypted passwords (like used by Windows98SE) will NOT follow these restrictions. Anybody could tell me if this information is really valid? If yes, there is any other way for me to setup Samba PDC server to do not allow more than one login with the same ID? Thanks, ===== Alceu Rodrigues de Freitas Junior ---------------------------------...

newbie question/authenticate
I have a small network running in a school. My network is working. samba is running on openSuSE 11.0 and Windows XP and Windows98se can access the non protect samba shares/sections. I have one problem that I been struggling with. I have read the howto's, and searched the lists, but can not find the solution. I would like to implement [homes] or [usershares] for student directories and file storage: When accessing the...

Am I getting the best performance?
...096, start = 0 /etc/samba/smb.conf socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_KEEPALIVE SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192 I'm running Redhat 8.0 using a custom built 2.4.20 kernel. The drive referenced above is a Seagate 7200rpm UDMA-33 IDE hard drive. I did a 2GB copy from Linux to a Windows98SE machine using Samba. I got 5.85MB/sec. I did the same copy on a Windows XP machine and got 6.99MB/sec. Then I copied from hdd to hdc and got 6.94MB/sec. (same channel) Then I copied from hdd to hdb and got 9.30MB/sec. (different channel) It seems to me that I should be able to get close to the...

SAMBA 2.2.7a and Windows XP
...only "sometimes". It seems that when the Windows XP machine is just booted, it normally gets access to the Linux-machine, but after just a while it looses the access. I'm also running a Windows 98SE-machine on the very same network, however the connection between Linux <---> Windows98SE seems to be flawless. It detects, browses, downloads, etc. without the slightest problem. To go back to the issue, I'm on a 10Mbit Broadband connection, and my IP is assigned by DHCP, I'm always on the same C-net. Locally the network runs at 100Mbit... (switched), and here's what...

Samba-3.0.10 domain issue
...a setup using ldap from following the smbldap-installer scripts etc, but now have one remaining problem. This is the second time I have installed it and had it working reasonably well being used in an educational environment. My problem this time is that each workstation has 3 operating systems - Windows98SE, Win2K and WinXP. Last time I created the domain it was fine to join both win2k and winxp to the domain, this time when I join both of them the second operating system to be joined seems to throw the first one off - eg if I join win2k first then join winxp I can logon to the domain fine from XP bu...

File & Printer Sharing With Windows98
...-peer network. Now, when I boot into Debian on the one computer, I would like for all 3 computers to still be able to share files and printers. However, when the machine with Debian is booted into Windows98, I would for the 3 computers to still be able to share files and printers. Setting up Windows98SE was pretty much automatic - whatever configuration I needed to do was available as screen shots that I was able to follow. I don't fully understand what I did so that file and printer sharing worked; I just know that it did. I've waded through the Samba documentation until my brain was...

Disabling MEMDISK
I have added instructions to memdisk.doc for how to disable MEMDISK. However, it's unlikely that this will work if you're running under DOS, since DOS will be very unhappy about drives changing underneath it. Anyway, until the next (pre)release comes out, here are the instructions: --- memdisk.doc 27 Apr 2004 06:49:36 -0000 1.10 +++ memdisk.doc 6 Jul 2004 01:29:03 -0000 @@ -122,5

SambConfigureitout?
...my windows machine, but when I click on one of the shared folders, it says: "error standard in must be a tty" A typical /etc/ttytype is: con80x25 tty1 vt320 ttys0 {What does that mean for Windows?} I don't think my windows machine has NIS campability. My main machine is running Windows98se and it's connected to the web by DSL, MSN. It's running PPP node: broadcast. How do I check to see if my ICS computer is NIS? It appears that what I want to do, is let my main computer assign an IP address to my linux computer by way of DHCP, but how does it do that if Windows is a dif...

vfat / ftruncate problem
I recently added a 60Gig HD to my little linux server at home with the intention of sharing it via Samba to all my PCs which run Windows 98SE. I really want to use vfat file system on it. The server is running Mandrake 8.1, so kernel 2.4.something, and the Samba that came with it. Much to my disappointment I quickly discovered poor performance copying files to it, the copy is like slow to get

Failed to delete entry for share
...orkNeighborhood view of the sharename shows the previous path. So It would work (show the updated path) if the samba server were restarted, but does not do it dynamically like the delete operation does. I've tested and duplicated this problem on WindowsXP using the old Nt4 serverManager and on Windows98SE using the win9x serverManager. The results are the same for both, so I do not think it is a client-side issue. Also, I've tried various sharenames, paths and comments with no difference found. And I've seen the same behavior on shares created with either serverManager or text-based smb.conf...

Make sure that Visual Studio works before 1.2 release
I was thinking that should be a good idea to make sure that at least Visual Studio 2008 is properly working in wine, before 1.2 release. In this way, we could test specific functions in wine, by creating simple test applications to test if the system calls are working well. I think that Visual Studio is a key application to test wine compatibility with windows, and it is an application that can be
