fully virt Xen DomU network question
Hello all fellow CentOS users! I have a working xen setup with 3 paravirt domUs and one Windblows 2003 fully virt domU. There are to virtual networks. As far as I can tell in the paravirt Linux DomUs I have gigabit networking, but not in the fully virt Windows 2003 domU.... Is there a setting for this, or is it not yet supported? I run xen-3.0.3-64.el5_2.3 Kind regards, Coert

sharing NFS mounts
OK, I've been searching the archives and google with little luck... I have a directory which needs to be shared with a number of UNIX clients via NFS and with Windows clients via Samba. What is the best way to do this? Should I configure Samba to share the actual NFS mount? Or should I configure Samba to share the actual filesystem directory? Reason I ask, we were using the former method

Furtherto my last post
ANR is a international news station we were testing on icecast over the weekend the quality great we chose mp3 because anyone can hear it. linux, mac. or windblows. also wanted to use a linux server, which is far more reliable than a windows machine ( always dropping out for some reason ) If the ogg only rule is permanent we will have to talk very nicely to our system admin to switch to ogg with a option of mp3 though at this point we cannot see a way forwar...

[PATCH] hivex: Add O_BINARY flag to open calls for platforms where this isn't the default (such as Win32)
Hi As my cross platform registry editor (FRED available from https://www.pinguin.lu (sorry for advertising but I couldn't resist ;-))) is evolving, I recently added write support to it. While under Linux everything worked nice, the Windblows build didn't. It seems that Windows opens files by default in text mode (O_TEXT) which is a problem. The attached patch adds the O_BINARY flag to all open calls which solves the issue and allows libhivex to alter hives in Windows. I don't think this will harm on any other platform, so no...

daemon crashes
...d process to crash. But, if I let all of the files from W1 get transferred before starting ther transfer from Linux to W2, smbd doesn't die. FYI: W1 is not allowed to directly transfer to W2 and vice-versa. The reason is that both boxes do video firewire capture and the idiotic overhead that Windblows has can cause the firewire transfer to drop frames. Any hints on keeping smbd from crashing in this situation will be appreciated. MB -- e-mail: vidiot@vidiot.com /~\ The ASCII \ / Ribbon Campaign [So it'...

Re: Windows Media Player 11
yea I know this thread is 3 years old. Tell your professor you have a Mac and can't watch the lecture. The solution is for instructors to stop publishing their work on media that forces their students to buy WindBlows. If he's so worried about piracy he can use a copyright and get a lawyer. And search everyone for tape recorders in class.

smbclient 2.2.8 gives NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
...out there, I'm facing a problem which drives me nearly nuts... On Solaris 2.6 today I upgraded SAMBA from 2.0.7 to the fresh 2.2.8 from Sunfreeware. Everything works fine - besides the smbclient. I used to use smbclient by some PERL-scripts to transfer huge crowds of files from SUN to some Windblows-boxes. With 2.0.7 everything worked fine for 18 months... As long as I connect to shares using a local windows user account everything works like it did before - without any hassles. For example (7.7.7.7 is a win2k-server): smbclient //7.7.7.7/myshare mypass -U myuse -c "cd mydir; dir&q...

Can't install Civ4
...icked on the appropriate install files and it all installed without a hitch. To get it to run I had to copy two .dll's to system32, per notes in appDB and Civ4 linux forum. Then it all worked. WHOOHOO! This is a very elaborate and resource intensive game if you are using the ROM-AND mod, even in Windblows, That it not only worked but worked well in Wine (better than in Win in my experience) was amazing. But, due to other problems, I decided to install Suse 12.1 as a clean install to clean up some things. That worked well, and Suse installed 1.3.33 for me, and then updated it to 1.3.34. Wine works...

Asterisk on Windows
Digium is 100% lost in the map. If they would come up with a Paid version of Asterisk, one that would use the .NET framework in Windows, something simple to install, they could go public on the product. Linux has a very steep learning curve. A Windows application that would do exactly the same would be a home run. Note: I am a Linux expert user, but it took me years to get here. And still, moving

CentOS for commercial use
I'm a home user of CentOS (a desktop and a laptop) because I like the quality of the product and I love the cost. I'm a great believer in FOSS. That being said, I know that some of you use CentOS for production servers and (perhaps?) desktops as well. I've read at leat one comment like "I have 20 CentOS servers." My employer is a firm believer in RHEL - license costs are
