Linux to windoze
Is it possible to allow your Liunx box "see" your winbox, just like the winbox can "see" or browse the Linux box with Samba?

I can't get multiple interfaces to work
I've looked through all the doc and searched the list archives, but I just can't seem to get it to work. I have a Linux box with 5 ethernet interfaces, 3 of which have winboxes I'd like to include in my little Samba network. I'm able to get it far enough for each winbox to see the linbox, but they can't see each other. Here's my setup: Winboxes Linbox Win2k - 172.16.2.2/24 (WINS=172.16.2.1) <---> 172.16.2.1/24 (eth2) Win98 - 172.16.3.2/2...

Problem with a program called winbox
This winbox application is one that I use to manage routers for myself and my customers, so it is unlikely that there are many others trying to use it. I have used this program (through several versions of the program itself) on my Fedora laptop from FC8 all the way to Fedora 14. I don't know what wine ve...

INFO Request: Samba PDC, Windows NT4 Style, Failure to Add Trusted Machine
...hat doesn't work from the Windows box. It first tells me that the machine is not in the list of machines on the domain, and then says the user cannot be found when I key in the user/pass/domain details in the login box. I've added the machine account to the pw file in BSD. vipw reveals: winbox$:*:101:100::0:0:Windows winbox:/dev/null:/sbin/nologin I've added the group machines to the groups file. /etc/groups reveals: machines:*:100: I've added the machine via command line to the Samba user db. root# smbpasswd -a -m winbox So, I figured I can just log into the Windows machin...

can't browse across subnets
Hi folks - I'm having an issue here. I have my samba server sitting on one subnet, and the rest of the clients sitting on another (due to IP administration reasons). I assign both my clients and the server to the same workgroup, but the winboxen clients can't browse to the samba server. The win clients all have WINS resolution turned on, and I specified all of my WINS servers in smb.conf, however, my server isn't showing up in the workgroup. I need the server to show up in the workgroup, because there is a winbox with an unresol...

Samba windows mount problem - some files and directories can't be seen even though they exist!
Hi. I have mounted a Windows 2000 Pro computer under linux using: mount -t smbfs -o username=phill, password=xxxxx //winbox/drivec /mnt/winbox I can then jump into /mnt/winbox/ and navigate around the Win 2000 box. But... For some reason some of the files and directories on the windows computer are not showing up. For example, I have just moved a heap of wav files for our audio-processing work into the C:\audio dir...

NetBios name resolution from WINDOWS
Hi, I've been following a similar and current thread about name resolution from LINUX side. I have exactly the opposite problem (running ubuntu 7.10 on a network with a mixture ubuntu 6.06, WinXP and WinVista boxes) The winboxes cannot see or mount this 7.10 box I can mount WinPC shares on this 7.10 box. I was wondering about firewalls, but I can ping this 7.10 from the WinBox by IP address but _not_ by netbios name. I do not have any issues on the 8 other ubuntu 6.06 boxes on the network. The smb.conf files are &quot...

Logon errors
Hello all, This my first mail in this list. We have succesfully setup a samba server at our 1st attempt, next we go in another site and try the same things but now it seems we got it all wrong! The facts: we have a linuxbox (named enlogic) (REdHat 7, kernel 2.2.18, samba 2.0.7)and one winbox win98se (named ndemou). Our workgroup is localenlogic. No other PC (not even a Hub because we've tried to symplify things as possible) we can ping each other (with arithmetic IPs) winbox can ping the linuxbox with its netbios name but we get an initial long delay before the pinging starts We...

Mounting cifs shares by non-root users on CentOS 4.6
...on-root users via /etc/fstab on a CentOS 4.6 box - I've followed the instructions at: <http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/WindowsShares> Using something like the /etc/fstab example given in the wiki page (with, of course, using a valid share, username and password for my set up): //winbox/getme /mnt/win cifs user,uid=500,rw,suid,username=sushi,password=yummy 0 0 When as a non-root user I do: % mount /mnt/win mount error 1 = Operation not permitted Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs) Running mount as root works fine, but I can not get it to work for non-r...

Samba 2.0.3 and NT/9x
...WORD=1 Alternatively, use the NT4_PlainPassword.reg file in this directory (either by double clicking on it, or run regedt32.exe and select "Import Registry File" from the "Registry" Menu). [ --- End of pasted text --- ] For both WinNT and Win9x, the solution to connect to a Winbox, regardless if it the Samba server has the 'security = user' option set or not, goes through modifying the registry files on each PC. That wouln't be a major problem under a reduced enviroment but a time-consuming task under a bigger one. This makes me face the following question: could...
