$ ls
dosdevices/ drive_c/ system.reg userdef.reg user.reg
In the source directory I have the following:
[john]: 06:18 PM [~/Documents/wine-20040914]

wine-20040914
Problem with installation.
tar xzvf wine-20040914.tar.gz
this created a directory ~/wine-20040914
su
# ./configure
this generated a longwinded error message to the effect that it is unable to
guess my system type.
# ./configure --build=i686
this got the configuration going and ended with the message:
"Configur finished. Do 'make depend && make' to compile wine".

Fonts
Whatever I want to do with wine is displayed with a very small font in
italics. I need a magnifying glass to read any text.
How can I change this for larger font and normal text?

using dvi with latex object: directory not correctly set, maybe due to error in shQuote()
Dear friends of R,
I want to produce a pdf file with the contents of a matrix. I employ the latex command in combination with dvi, both contained in the Hmisc package. It seems to me that the function does not correctly set the directory.
> tbl.loc <- matrix(1:4, nc=2)
> latex.obj <- latex(tbl.loc)
> dvi(latex.obj)

rpm install
I have in /home/john/Documents the rpm file 'wine-20040914-mdk.i586.rpm'
changing to 'su' will permit the installation of the package by using
rpm -iv wine-20040914-mdk.i586.rpm
I know that by using the command 'winhelp' the directory /home/john/.wine will
be created.
I forgot how I happen to know this. What document source would tell me that I
would have to use

Desktop Icons
I have the program 'freecell' in the directory:
[john]: 09:28 AM [~/.wine/drive_c/ProgramFiles/Freecell]
$ wine freecell will start the program.
What do I have to do to create an Icon on the desktop that will start the
program?

sound on debian
I have wine 20040716 on a debian installation. The sound is working for normal
applications e.g KsCD to play CD's.
Presently I have three windows based programs running with wine. FreeCell,
IrfanView and CClient.
The later is a Chess Client to play chess over the Internet. All three
programs operate properly, but CClient needs a sound feedback when a piece is
moved. Unfortunately there
