R-devel Mac OSX build wierdness...
I encountered some wierdness when building R-devel (latest rsync) on OSX using commandline tools (as opposed to the Carbon GUI and whatnot...probably just laziness on my part but it generally works :-)). At any rate, sometime between 2002-07-05 and the present the configure scripts started setting INSTALL_DATA to ${R_HOME...

Wierd 8.3 Name Mangling
I've installed Samba 3.0.7 (stock Debian package), but I'm having some wierd problems with name mangling. The relevant lines in smb.conf are: preserve case = yes short preserve case = yes mangled names = yes mangle prefix = 5 mangling method = hash2 In a share, I did "touch test-file.GHO" to create a long filename. When I do a "dir" un...

Wierd Problem
OK everything was working fine before I went to lunch but when I came back I could no longer see the Samba printer or shares so I rebooted the machine and saw that all the services started. I checked swat and it states the smb and nmbd are running and all the shares are there. Also before I left I could ssh into the machine and now I can't do that either. I can ping the machine and Windows can

Wierdness using Samba PDC with WinXP-Pro and Win2K-Pro clients
...The file share served up by the server contains the database application executables and data. The two client machines should both run copies of the database application simultaneously, and this worked without problems when the PDC and file share were being provided by Win2K server OS. But the wierdness is this: The arrangement still works fine with the SuSE box as the PDC and SMB file server, BUT... ONLY if I start the database application on the Win2K client machine FIRST, and then, once it is running, I subsequently start the database application on the WinXP client. If I start up the...

wierdness with mailboxes
...'ve been looking long and hard for a small, C-based, simple IMAP server that worked well with maildirs *and* mboxes and nothing else. wu-imap is so bloated and rife with decrepit, cross-platform, insecure code that I avoid it for any new servers. Courier-imap only supports maildirs but has some wierdnesses that I've come to live with. dovecot promises to be exactly what I'm looking for with just the right footprint and feature-set. =) I was surprised when I tried creating subfolders of mbox's. woohoo! The only problem is that dovecot manages to rename the parent, appending a '...

Wierd Error "The directory name is invalid", Moving to 2.2?
Hello, I have samba setup as a PDC, user level security, and I have some wierd errors on Win2k clients (I know they cant join the domain etc). In a nutshell, when i double-click a file such as: \\server\share\x.txt in explorer, it gives a "The directory name is invalid error". I can, though, do a sendto->notepad and it works fine. I also can file|open->file i...

wierd duration shown in progress with 0 byte files
While trying out the 2.6.4-pre2, I noticed something wierd with --progress; it shows: ads/promotions.MYD 0 100% 0.00kB/s 519:35:46 (61, 56.3% of 597) This is quite reproducable whenever an empty file is transferred (or created on the receiving end). Commandline used was: rsync -zave 'ssh -c arcfour' --progress --stats --delete l...

Wierd error logging into Samba 2.2.5 from Winxp
Hello. I have a network with a server running Samba 2.2.5. I just recieved a laptop from Compaq with winxp on it. I already have a few winxp boxes on my network connecting to the Samba server just fine so I though setting up this laptop should be a breeze but after I change the required registry entries on this laptop (the "requires sign or seal registry entry to 0") It gives me the

1.0.alpha4 process creation wierdness
...cot-auth |- imap `- 2*[imap-login] I would expect it to only have one imap-login running. Anyway, when I disconnect the client, the imap process exits but imap-login keeps running: dovecot -,- dovecot-auth `- 2*[imap-login] This is when it gets really wierd. When I connect a client again, my pstree looks like I would have expected it to on my first connect: dovecot -,- dovecot-auth |- imap `- imap-login If I re-connect, we start over again (i.e. dovecot-auth, imap, 2 * imap-login). Anybody got a clue what's going...

more inter-subnet browsing wierdness
We are seeing some strange inter-subnet browsing issues here, our setup is as follows: .129 subnet [ samba box ] | | [ router ] ^ _.1 subnet _/ \_ .9 subnet_ The .129 subnet contains only the samba server configured to the letter from the browsing.txt file. The .1 subnet conists of win98 and winME boxes all configured from DHCP to use the samba box for WINS lookups.

SPA-3000 generating one-ring calls
This is a wierd one. Can't figure it out. I have an SPA-3000 at the house handling my incoming line. It's setup to direct the incoming call to asterisk. Works great 99% of the time. A few times a day, I'm getting calls that ring once internally and are then hungup. I managed to get a detailed log...

Re: Zpool output is wierd after export/import.
> Perhaps we should allow users to name disks when they''re added, > as well as labeling them with the internal ID? Yep, that''s on the list. In a large config you really want the ability to name disks by location, e.g. "rack 5, shelf 2, slot 3". Even on a desktop, names like "top", "bottom", and "external" would be nice. Jeff

AppDB Voting System Wierdness
Hi, I'm a newbie. I was looking at the AppDB and I think the voting is a great idea to prioritise what people want and will use. However, I was looking at my favorite game that I want to get fully working on wine - "Company of Heroes (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4506)". I can't understand why there isn't a global voting for this like

Samba Mapped Drives on XP Computers and Wierdness
I have a samba server setup sharing a bunch of files across the company network. Everyone has the relevant samba shares mapped to drive letters on their computer on startup. All generally works great. HOWEVER if you dig deep enough there seems to be some weirdness. As long as you use the drive letter or a folder link from the DFS to navigate to the shares then all is good. If you type in the
