ActiveX support in Wine
...un under wine.
It is a kind of database app, for text databases. For some reason it
uses many ActiveX controls. So far all seems to be Ms "standard" controls.
But the program will not run. Anyone have a tip? I'm going to test
with a native ole32.dll among things.
Cheers,

Buggy libXrender.so?
...hing wrong with it.
The root filesystem is mostly read only and my /home is rw nfs
exported from my file sever. I've been wondering if maybe wine
wants to open files rw in say /usr/lib, and it fails when it
isn't allowed to do so due to the ro filesystem.
Any ideas?
Sincerely,

NLS for smbmount
I'm using Urban Widmark's smbfs/Linux kernel patch (2.2.14)
to display iso-8859-1 characters in file names on NT mounts.
The patch works fine for me; I'm only wondering if and when
it will be integrated into the Linux kernel. After all, NLS
is an essential feature and not just nice-to-have for all
non-anglophone...

smbfs Unicode patch for 2.4.x kernel
Hi,
I'm looking for a patch to the redhat 2.4 kernel to add Unicode
support to smbfs. My particular version is 2.4.26. I searched the list
archives and found someone named Urban Widmark claimed to have a patch
for 2.4.18, but his URL is outdated.
If anyone has this patch, please let me know -- this would help me
greatly. Thanks!

New maintainer needed for the Linux smb filesystem
Since Urban Widmark was not active for some time, and I didn't have any
success trying to reach him, it seems we need a new maintainer for the
smb filesystem in the Linux kernel.
Is there anyone who both feels qualified and wants to become the new
maintainer?

...is incorrect.)
I was surprised to see, however, that the smbmount / mount.smbfs
manpage makes no mention of cifs as being the recommended alternative,
and it includes the following statement:
"The current maintainer of smbfs and the userspace tools smbmount, smbu-
mount, and smbmnt is Urban Widmark. The SAMBA Mailing list is the pre-
ferred place to ask questions regarding these programs."
Out-of-date manpage? Could it be updated to hopefully stave off some
of the smbfs questions?
What's the best place to submit manpage updates like this? Bugzilla,
this mailing list, somewhere e...

mode=777 does not work as fstab option
I need to mount a samba share as mode 777, so all users can
read/write/delete/create.
I have this as fstab entry
//host/public /mnt/home smbfs
auto,uid=user,umask=000,defaults,username=Perkins,password=
see, i've had to put uid=user just to get it owned by user user, so i could
edit files
i put mode=777, but it does nothing.
i want to let all users read/write/create/delete

smbmount question
Hi,
I'm running Linux 2.2.2 w/ Samba 2.0.2, using the smbmount that comes with
Samba 2.0.2. I noticed that when I mount shares, smbmount sticks around,
almost like a daemon:
[root@jason /root]# smbmount //XXXX.gatech.edu/XXXX$ "XXXXXX" -U jkau
-c "mount /mnt/cnd" < /dev/null > /tmp/smbmount.out
[root@jason /root]# ps ax | grep smbmount

How to automate SMBMNT
Hi there,
How do I automate smbmnt so that when logging on, it mounts the required
shared directories on an NT4.0 file system using the user name and
password I used t gain access to the GUI ?
I s this possible. I am currently running Network Neighborhood and have
been using this application for access but this requires that I scan
mount and log-on again before gaining access to that share.

smbmount cannot browse large NT directories
This is a problem I get with various versions of Samba, up to and including
2.0.7. (The version shipped with Debian.)
I have an NT machine (4.0, service-pack 3 using NTFS) exporting a filesystem
to Linux through smbmount. Specific directories are not browsable. By that
I mean that "ls *" comes up blank, however if you know the filename, "ls
foo.txt" will still find the

FW: samba woes
All,
I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last
few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

Samba on Solaris 2.5.1?
Does anyone have Samba working on Solaris 2.5.1?
I posted more or less the same question a few months
ago, and didn't hear anything back, but the issue has reared
its head again on my end.
I have Samba 2.0.0 running successfully on Solaris 2.6,
but have failed in repeated attempts to get Samba running
on Solaris 2.5.1. Basic symptom: I can get the daemon
running, but can't connect to
