Per activerecord object callbacks (aka: should I have gone to bed hours ago?)
First of all, I should have gone to bed a long time, so please be
forgiving with regards to what will follow :)
So I''ve been working all day on a rails project that needs to go out
soon, and I thought I would try to refactor a has_many relationship to
a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship (using has_many :through).
However, I then realized that I would loose a lot of the simple beauty

OPLOCKS....
Hi, I have an application under Access that is running dead slow. I've
done some testing and it appears that Access really likes to use OPLOCKS which
of course Samba does not support.
Is there any work underway to get Samba to support OPLOCKS? I know they are
difficult to implement but I'm faced with a decisions now to buy an NT box
(Ugh!) or do a lot of messing around to get this application to perform
decently. The application in qu...

Logging into queue homed off remote system
...I have an interesting problem I am trying to work around.
I currently have 2 * servers running in separate offices, using IAX2 to trunk between them, and queues in our main office. I'll call them Office_A and Office_B. I use Polycom 501s with a primary and secondary server, the primary being whichever server is local to them. What I'm finding is that when a user logs into the queue on Office_A, if their primary server is set to Office_B, the IAX trunk ends up getting logged into the queue, which is no good. I tried using a SIP trunk to make the connection, but I either end up with a di...

package : plm : pgmm question
Dear Sir,
I am using the package pgmm you build in panel regression. However, I found that when T is 10, N=30, the error would show as following:
system is computationally singular: reciprocal condition number
But the similar code works well on Stata, so I wonder how I can optimize the algorithm, for example , the inverse matrix optimization ? And I have checked my data as well, no

Need a better undersanding of form helpers
...pull up the main/welcome.rhtml page
In welcome.rhtml all I have is one line:
<%= render :partial => "user/register" %></td>
but there is also a main.rhtml layout so welcome.rhtml is embedded in
one of the main layout divs.
Last is the user/register partial:
currently in which i have this code. I know I want to drop this in
favor of form helpers for various reasons, one being styling.
<%= form_tag :controller => "main",
:action => "register" %>
<%= labeled_text_field "First name", :user, :first_name...

need help running samba 3.0.11 with security=domain (again)
My original post didn't seem to work properly - so I am trying again ...
I am having problems getting security=domain to work properly with Samba
3.0.11 (this seems to be the recommended configuration for the
application which I use - ClearCase)
We are running on a Solaris 10 server.
We created a machine account for the server and then ran the command to
join the domain :
net rpc join -S domain_controller -U user%pass
Joined domain BP1.
The fact that we got the "joined domain" message looked encouraging....

adding regression curve to xyplot
Dear R-listers,
It seems that predict() behaves differently within panel.xyplot. Am I
doing something stupid?
Thanks,

First, without xyplot():
