SVM unbalanced classes
...n.
The problem is that I have unbalanced classes e.g. the first one is much bigger than the second one and therfore the svm is biased to the first class.
If I manually adjust the class size the bias disappears.
The question is then how to include this unequal class distribution to the svm (e.g. via wheights or costs)?
Yours,
Frank

2/3d interpolation from a regular grid to another regular grid
Hello R users,
I have numerical data sampled on two grids, each one shifted by 0.5
from the other.
For example:
grid1 = expand.grid(x=0:3, y=0.5:2.5)
grid2 = expand.grid(x=0.5:2.5, y=0:3)
gridFinal = expand.grid(x=0.5:2.5, y=0.5:2.5)
plot(gridFinal, xlim=c(0,3), ylim=c(0,3), col="black", pch=19)
points(grid1, xlim=c(0,3), ylim=c(0,3), col="red", pch=19)
points(grid2,

GAM weights
...resences, and the total area is about 550.000 square km. So we have a
real problem, when we perform a GAM, if we consider only the same amount of
absences than presences.
We have thought to use a greater number of absences but in this case we shoud
downweight them.
Does anybody know how to use the ?wheight? term?
thank you in advance

winbind causing huge timeouts/delays since 4.8
I run samba for a small business domain (less than 10 users), which to me,
seems like a common (and good) use case. When I ran a Windows server, it
did it all. AD DC and file server. I have figured out how to get samba to
do the same, but not without many a headache and some I'm sure, unsupported
workarounds. While I fully understand the reasoning behind the desire to
run separate servers

How accurate is show translation?
Hi all,
I'm using 'show translation' to help dimension my system, but I confused
by the results I get. My 2 test systems (results below): an AthlonXP
2000+ (1.3GHz) and a Pentium D930 (duo-core, 3.0GHz) produced similar
results (D930 is slightly faster). Googling shows that others have
similar results running on other CPU speeds >2.0GHz.
At first glance, it would look like the

Summary: Teaching with R a quick survey.
...: School of Life Sciences
study: Ecological and Environmental studies
-----------------------------------------
I have been using R for teaching survival analysis and analysis of
categorical data (glm) for 2 years at the Autonomous University of Barcelona,
Spain.
Reasons:
1. R is free and low wheight. Students can have their own copy.
2. We have campus license of SPSS but this does not have easy capabilities
for glm nor parametric survivam models.
