problem with installing lustre and ofed
...ook at my procedure and results below and let me know what you think? Thanks very much!
The mellanox ofed installation builds and installs some kernel modules too, so I used this method to ensure OFED compiled against the correct kernel. This is on centos 6.3.
1. download all lustre rpms from whamcloud
2. install kernel, kernel-firmware, kernel-headers, and kernel-devel
* in this case, it''s the rpm files with "2.6.32-279.14.1.el6_lustre.x86_64" in their name
3. reboot into this lustre kernel
4. install the remaining rpms
5. download ofed from mellanox "MLNX_O...

Lustre buffer cache causes large system overhead.

Any hints on how to improve the situation is greatly appreciated.
System setup:
Client: Dual socket Sandy Bridge, with 32GB ram and infiniband connection to

How to reproduce:

Interested in contributing to Lustre
Hi all,
I am a grad student at Carnegie Mellon University. I had my course work in
advanced storage systems in previous semester, and I am interested to work
on Lustre. I prefer to take up a project that could be completed in a
duration of a month or two.
Since I am a novice w.r.t. my familiarity with Lustre code base, I seek
your opinion to choose a project from the list:

Lustre 1.8 client on EL 6.5?
Hello,
in preparation for CentOS 6.5 I was trying to build Lustre 1.8 client on
CentOS 6.4 updated with 2.6.32-431 kernel.
Seems like recent changes in fs.h
(/usr/src/kernels/2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64/include/linux/fs.h) is causing
problems.

SLES 11 SP1 Client rpms built but not working
Hi all,
I used the method described below to build client rpms with the source kit lustre-1.8.5.tar.gz.
There was only one error reported during the make rpms, relating to lustre-iolit-1.2-root,
but the rpms were built under /usr/src/packages/RPMS/x86_64.
The rpms lustre-modules, lustre and lustre-tests were then installed smoothly without any complaints.
But the subsequent "modprobe

Speeding up configuration log regeneration?
...ried mounting the
Lustre partitions with -o nobarrier (yes, I know it''s dangerous, but
I''d really need to speed things up) but I don''t know if that does
anything at all.
We run Centos 6.x in Lustre servers, where Lustre has been installed
from rpm''s from Whamcloud/Intel build bot, and Ubuntu 10.04 in clients
with hand compiled kernel and Lustre. One MGC/MGS with twelve 15k-RPM
SAS disks in RAID-10 as MDT that is all but empty, and six variously
build RAID-6''s in SAS-attached shelves in three OSS''s.

Re: File System corruption tool
We have a script that adds corruption to ext2/3/4 filesystems and runs
e2fsck on it. It definitely could be improved, but it still catches some
occasional errors:
http://git.whamcloud.com/?p=tools/e2fsprogs.git;a=commit;h=aee44c669bebe29bfdb8a1c86da443234f8bc257
It tries to format the filesystem with different features and options, then
adds corruption from both random data and copying parts of the
filesystem internally to some other part of the filesystem. It might be useful t...

File System corruption tool
Hi -
I'm searching for file system corruption tool, say it inject disk-errors
like
multiply owned blocks etc. Later an integrity scan process (like e2fsck)
will
verify on-disk layout and fix these errors.
I'd like to read/understand such tools before writing one for an proprietary
on-disk file system.
Do we have such tools for ext{2,3,4}fs ? Thanks for any help or pointers!
