how to stop WfWG local browse master announcements?
this isn't strictly a samba question, but it is related in that i'm trying
to a samba server as my domain master browser and multiple samba servers
as local master browsers for a workgroup across multiple subnets.
everything seems to be working wonderfully except for one WfWG host
which does not show up in the browse list as expected. i notice that
this host is announcing itself as a local master browser despite the fact
that there is a samba server on the same subnet acting as a local master.
is it possible to stop a WfWG host from announcing itself as a local
master...

cannot access samba from WfWg running trumpet winsock
Hi all!
Here is my problem: I have installed RedHat Linux version 6.0 on a
computer and I want to share its resources via samba. Unfortunately, my
computer - which is running WfWg 3.11 for Eastern Europe and the trumpet
winsock TCP/IP stack is not able to see the samba server. Other
computers, running Win95, Linux and WfWg with M$ TCP/IP stack perform
OK.
I have tried the following combinations:
- samba-2.0.3 from the RH distribution and samba-2.0.4 from
contrib.redhat.com,...

How can I print from Unix to Wfwg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Salam to all
Thanks for reading this.
I am using Samba 1.9.17p2 on Solaris2.5.1 running on Sun sparc-20
servers. Our print servers are running WfWg. We want to print from
Unix to Wfwg servers. I have tested print command of smbclient on a
printer attached with a NT box and it works fine.
But I want to print not only from command line but also from
application (e.g Answer book, Visual works, etc ) to WfWg. So I want...

smbprint.sysv problem for printing from unix to WFWG
Dear users
Thanks for reading this. Hope you will help me.
I am using samba 1.9.17p2 on SunSparc-20 running solaris2.5.1 for
printing and file sharing with PC-network. File sharing is working
fine but I want to print to a WfWg printer from Solaris. So I have
used your script smbprint.sysv and try to print. But I am facing
following problems:
1- Some print jobs are printed and some are not.
2- I can only do command line printing e.g lp <file name>
3- I can't print from Xwindows a...

Works great on all versions of samba. For WFWG you need the MS-TCP/IP-32
(not part of WFWG). For W3.1x without workgroup enhancement, i don't now
which software you need. I guess the DOS Lanman-Package.
With samba set to encrypted pwd you even can login to the samba (NT) domain
to. Logon scripts execute well.
Attached i send you the latest...

Exactly.

I will do it, security is never enough, however I would like to understand
better if concerns are on
the need of lowering AD DC security to permit WfWg to connect
[lanman auth = yes, server signing = disabled]
here I agree, better to let the AD DC run at full security and have a
secondary samba member run at lower
or
the danger the WfWg machines could pose to the network, thus they need to
run on a separate LAN
of course those machines aren...

Windows 3.1 and Samba
Has anybody got some experience with connecting machines running Windows3.1
or WfWG (3.11) to Samba? We would like to run a small lab network with
user accounts and a shared printer off the samba box. Samba is running fine
and there's no problem to connect to it from the Win95/WinNT machines...
Any help appreciated.

4.2.14 (or newer) support "Windows for Workgroups 3.1a"?
...actually.

It cannot understand the domain and authenticate over it, but this is
not a problem as the WfWg doesn't export any folder and nothing connects to it.
I need the 3.11 be able to access a folder exported by something else and,
with stability issues, it's working with windows 7/10 pro and it was working
already before I replaced the windows server with a samba one... but I would

So all the non NT users have ###NOPASSWORD### in smbpasswd?
This sounds strange to me so let me just ask again to make
sure I understand what you ar saying.

Supporting both non encrypted and encrypted passwords
Hi,
I have a network with a mix of Win95 and 98 machines (thus some use
encrypted passwords by default and some don't.
I already have all the users in a Unix password file therefore I'd like to
use non encrypted passwords if I can and fall back on encrypted passwords if
I don't have a choice (patched Win95 and Win98) because that requires people
with encrypted password

NT domain logon questions
Hi. Myself and a anti-Micro$oft companion tried to get
NT domain logons working yesterday and seem pretty close, but
not quite.
Samba is 1.9.18alpha3, server is an Ultra-2 running SunOS 5.5.1.
Encrypted passwords seem to be working, a la smbclient and mostly
from NT, "mostly" because it *seemed* to be working but we did
have some problems with home directories in smbpasswd changing

samba and win98 grief
...and I have no
idea why???? I'm going nuts trying to fix this. I've even gone out and
bought the book "Using Samba" .... great book btw.
The samba server is running on a SuSE linux system and passes all the tests in
the DIAGNOSTICS.TXT file. It will happily connect to another WFWG 3.11 system.
The win98 system can see and access the samba shares in network neigborhood.
It can also see the shares on the WFWG system.
I just can't access the win98 system from samba!!!!! I've increased the
logging and don't get any more info other than the connection failed??? Th...

Clarity on using SAMBA and Mapping to a Sun Server
...listing the shares available on your server
smbclient -L yourhostname
Your should get back a list of shares available on your server. If you
don't then something is incorrectly setup. Note that this method can
also be used to see what shares are available on other LanManager
clients (such as WfWg).
If you choose user level security then you may find that Samba requests
a password before it will list the shares. See the smbclient docs for
details.
(you can force it to list the shares without a password by adding the
option -U% to the command line. This will not work with non-Samba server...

netlogon error?
Greetings all,
I'm running a RedHat 5.0 (kernel 2.0.32) Linux box with samba 1.9.18p7 and
I'm having a problem with my netlogon share. NT domain logons are working
just fine, but I keep getting the following message in /var/log/messages,
repeated every day for every user logging in:
May 26 09:08:09 gromit PAM_pwdb[23002]: 1 authentication failure; (uid=0)
-> [username] for samba

lmhosts
this may be a remedial question, but uh, what's /etc/lmhosts supposed to
be? smbclient always complains that it doesn't exist... should it?
thanks...

dell says bye bye to Linux
Well. A priori. I'm a dedicated legacy OS person. I cut my teeth on
command line DOS and then WIN 3.xx (these days that means WFWG 3.11). I drew
the line at WIN9x. Hate that beast with a true passion, but because it is
the 800 pound gorilla, I have to find some way to accomodate it in the
future.
So, here is the rub. Linux is a real PITA. Capital PITA. Unbelievably techie
and that is bad. I say that because I was a techie...

Does NUT include support for older UPSD servers?
...ected. Thus I would like to be
able to monitor the UPSs connected to the OS/2 systems from a linux
system. Unfortunately that appears to be problematic. The PCP 4.x
software appears to use Lan Server for its network protocol while the
later APC software uses TCP/IP for networking. The Windows/WfWG version
of 4.x lacks network support. The linux version of 4.x is not binary
compatible with modern linux systems and is closed source.
I have posted on the APC forums and they have had nothing further to
suggest to me other than to check third-party software or run the OS/2
software in a vir...

Linux can't telnet to WFW 3.11
My server is RH 5.2 and i use Samba 1.9.18p10 and the client use WFW 3.11 with
tcp/ip protocols installed. The subnet and the IP Address is right but I still
only telnet form WFW 3.11 to Linux...not the reverse. On Linux telnet is
working. I've checked it through this cmdline "telnet localhost 23 or telnet
127.0.0.1" . And I also testparm smb.conf and nothing wrong happen. FYI I set

Samba Printing
Good Afternoon,
We recently added encrypted smb passwords to our site.
I just tried to add a printer to samba and it will not work.
I tried to connect to \\sambahost\printer and it will not connect.
All the older printers still work. I just wonder if there is an
extra step I need to perform now when I add printers?
Thanks for your time,
Bill
