WG: AW: Another problem with encoding
Hello, Peter, I tried it out: iconv(names(attributes(spss[,'Y6'])[[1]][14]), "UTF-8", "LATIN1", sub='byte') yielded [1] "<c4>rzte Chirurgie" and c4 corresponds in most encodings to ?. What can I do next? I wonder whether there is a more comfortable way then to change the occurences of <..> by the adequate character. Regards, Matthias

SUMMARY: Can't 'save-as' from MS Word
Thanks a million to Wendell Wilson, who offered a solution to the problem we've been seeing regarding saving a document in MS Word. I know we really do need to upgrade to at least 2.2.6, and I am planning it - but this gives us little more breathing room with everything else going on. Once again, appreciate your help!...

Link with C code
Hello, I am using cygwin (latest version) and I managed to generate a dll partly with rcmd shlib although there was a problem with both the resouce file (I had to remove "FILEOS VOS__WINDOWS32") and the command line for gcc (--shared is not supported for instance). So I would like to know which compiler/environment you advise to use for windows OS. Then I could load the library in R

Logon script change failure
I've got a bunch of servers which for a long time now have provided domain logon scripts of the form %u.bat or %m.bat I've recently created a more capable logon script in Kixtart and have changed smb.conf to launch it for all users as just logon.bat So no more per-machine or per-user scripts, everybody runs the same one, and inside it it does per-machine and/or per-user things.
