External journal on flash drive
Hi,
I'd like to use a flash drive as a journal device, with the purpose of
keeping the main disk drive spun down as long as possible. I have a
couple of questions:
1) Does the journaling code spread write accesses to the journal device
evenly, as I hope, or are there blocks that are particularly "hot"?
I.e., do I have to worry about the flash device dying quickly because of

Replacing custom kernel with another - with same identifier
Hi list,
I just finished building a custom kernel from 2.6.18-53.1.21 source rpm
- this time with ISA bus and ISAPNP support which I accidentally left
out of my previous attempt.
Unfortunately, this time I forgot to change my identifier in
kernel-2.6.spec file. Thus I now have one *installed* kernel version
*without* ISA support, and another one *with* ISA support but as rpm,
not yet installed.

WINBIND configuration and NT Authentication]
Hi,
Yes it's possible to authenticate users from win 2000 server with
winbind. For me
the PAM configuration was the hardest part. I used mandrake 9 and it has
a realy
good pre config. And if you want to modify the folder/file permissions
from NT/W2k
PDC then don't use ReiserFS as the filesystem. Use either EXT3 or XFS.
Mayby the
ReiserFS 4 will have the ACL support.

Restricting access to specific IPs
Hello
I tried searching the mailing list and did some googling on the topic also,
but didn't find anything very useful. I'm looking for a way to restrict
access to my icecast2 server (which runs on a Slackware 8.1 system)
by using a list of IPs that should be allowed to connect as clients / sources.
.. now how do I do this? ;-) I remember that it was possible in the older

rsync --delete-hide
Hello!
I was wondering wether or not this would be a viable option to add to rsync:
--delete-hide
Instead of deleting the file, rsync would rename the file using leading ?.? and trailing ?.deleted-{timestamp}?.
rsync -rv --delete-hide /src/ /dst/
For example if /src/readme.txt had already been rsynced to /dst/readme.txt and then later was deleted from /src, rsync would - instead of deleting

Problem with Mac OS X Clients
Hi,
I have installed a Debian / Lenny with Samba 3.2.5 and put it in an
existing Domain.
All works fine. I can Authenticate the Users and and give them
permissions to write while I connect from a Windows- or Linux-Client.
When I`m conecting from an Mac OS X Client and create a new Folder,
the Permission is always 755. (from other clients 770)

WINBIND configuration and NT Authentication
Setup:
Suse 7.2, Samba 2.2.6
Win 2K PDC
Project:
I would like to use winbind to authenticate users that do not have local
accounts on the linux machine for access to various file and print shares.
I have gotten winbind to successfully grab the user and groups from the NT
box (verified by getent passwd). However, I have had little luck obtaining
the permission based file share that I would

Suggestions on "I Need the Kernel Source" Wiki pages
Hi all,
I am a newcomer to CentOS but slightly less so to Linux in general
(FC4-F9). In short, I am trying to make an old SB Vibra 16C (ISA) sound
card work in Centos 5. To achieve this, support for ISA bus and ISA PnP
is apparently needed in kernel. Therefore, a custom kernel needs to be
built. -- Yes, I have read all the warnings of lack of support, etc.
As a first step, I had to build the

If any one has working pam config files that they could post or email, that
would be great.
Does one need to restart a pam service after changes are made? If so..how?

ACLs with samba
Hi-
I am experiencing some odd behavior with ACLs with winbindd using Samba 2.6
on Debian Woody (kernel version 2.4.18).
1. I am unable to alter permissions from Win2K clients using the
Properties->Security interface. Is this normal? I get the "Unable to save
Permission Changes on new Folder. Access is denied." message. This occurs
with all accounts, both privileged and

ices2 metadata, script module
Hi!
I upgraded libshout/ices2/icecast2 from CVS today and noticed there's some
new neat stuff like the web admin interface. Thanks to whomever the
contributor may be. Yay! Btw, about icecast2 admin.c line 458 -- shouldn't
"dest_source, source->mount" be the other way around? Just a thing I
noticed :-)
..anyway, my question:
Is there a way to make ices2 update metadata about

Howto get Samba to auth. from W2k PDC
Hi,
I would like to get my Samba server to get authetication from Win2000
domain (PDC).
Does anyone have this working right? My Samba server(mandrake 9) can get
the
users and groups information from the win2000 server but cannot
authenticate them.
What is the problem ?
Please help me with this. I have tried looking in mailing lists but
havent found any help.
And thanks in advance.

How stable is samba 3.0?
Hi,
Im using 2.2.x at the moment and I'm wondering should I move to 3.0 now.
I need samba to be a file server in couple networks. What I need in all
of them is to get the samba to authenticate user / group from
winNT/Win2k servers. At the moment this doesn't work with the 2.2.x
because my lack of knowledge.
I have 3 weeks time to get this working =). If I can't make this I must
