But it requires some fiddling around with date reformatting from HTTP
date to the one shown in the example JSON, if Icecast provided the
server date in it's JSON then that is one less piece of code needed in
the script/webplayers. There also seems to be some issues with getting
the Date header when doing XHR in javascript (possibly CORS related).
Again, it sounds lazy but having less "end programmer" coded needed
would be a plus.

else should have no issues handling the HTTP Date value, but still
providing the date in the json simplifies the implementation (no parsing
needed, just passthrough and cache basically).
I believe the lack of a song history has been pointed out before, now
with Webplayers possible (which do not support in-stream metadata
"out-of-the-box") this is very useful. If Shoutcast v2 had a proper
server date provided it would still be two calls (to get the history and
the stream name/description). Icecast can easily do this better, right?

HTTP Basic Auth alternative
Hello,
Is HTTP basic authentication the only way for icecast to perform
authentication ? With a link like
http://username:password at example.com:8000/mystream
(HTTP basic authentication) it has a number of problems regarding browsers.
Chrome for security reasons does not follow the link and shows a popup
asking to enter the credentials but this destroys user experience for a

Re What HTML5 radio player do you use ?
I used MediaElement.js - far from great (no tracknames) but it does usually work on mobile (Android, I don't have an IOS machine to text but I suspect it will be Ok)?problem is with HTML5 is it's spotty across the browsers even on Mac, and on Android pre 4.1 forget it - some work, some don't.
Firefox for instance is HTML5 on paper, in reality because of file formats (MP3 support in
