smbpasswd file NFS sharable?
If I want to make two servers use the same encrypted passwords can I
share the smbpasswd file via NFS? Will updates/locking work correctly?
Is there an alternative? Can LDAP/PAM use encrypted passwords?

Any way to prevent mapped drives?
...apped drives.
There is another reason to prevent them: Several of the viruses
will run down through all the drives, real and mapped, and trash them.
I would like to prevent that (yes, we have virus protection everywhere,
but sometimes they get in before the vendors have a cure).

I went back after the fact and performed the Landscape/Portrait devmode dance.
I want to retire the old server and this is the only thing keeping it alive
at this time (Don't worry, I have other uses planned. It won't be put out
to pasture.)

Also, how do I know if samba is listening on port 445? There seems to be
no other mention in the man page. (I do know it isn't because "lsof" does
not show it).

After the "use client driver = yes", the client used had stock Win2k Pro

downloading from the server.

...unix (crypt) passwd and the NT (obfuscated) passwd.
Even better if running "passwd" on a Unix NIS client would
change both using the Solaris Extensions for Directory Server. The
latter I should be able to hack together by starting with a free
yppasswdd implementation.

RH 7.1 and Ctrl+Alt+Del [off topic]
I know this isn't samba problem, but I hope that You'll understand.
I have RH 7.1 installed (Kernel 2.4.2-2) and I have strange, funny but
really dangerous problem. In every moment (even when there is login screen)
in text mode when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del my machine simply shuts down.
Is there any fix for this?

I tried setting the PAM argument smbconf=... to a file that

Anyone know how to get pam_smbpass to use the right parameters?

As an alternative, is there a way to make shares only show if the user has
at least read access? Then I would not need to create these special files
and I would be able to let standard ACLS or other permissions mechanisms
control the visibility.

I have 30 printers setup just fine. The cups name == the samba name. Just this latest one

I really need to get this solved as we are upgrading all our customer support

Multiple Instancies of Samba on a single System
Hi out there,
i intend to run multiple Instancies of Samba
on a single, multi-homed, server, with each instance bound
to a specific (logical) interface.
If this works, it would be fine to me.
Mainly for administrative Reasons. (You won't believe,
but from time to time it becomes necessary to restart
some services, but restarting the entire server is a
real mess)
Well here my

true or not. Someone here at work is telling me that it works fine, while I
can at least see shares just vaporize from the server window as I watch.
Is there some sort of OS compatibility matrix?
Thanks,
