Wazzup with the rubyonrails-talk Google Group?
I just got a Google Groups notification that I had been
subscribed to http://groups.google.com/group/rubyonrails-talk.
Looking at the page, it appears that about 4300 folks have
been subscribed. However, I saw nothing about this on
rails@lists.rubyonrails.org. Wazzup?

performance problems with IMAPS
....
It's saving the file in tiny chunks....
Looking at a few, I see:
4148 bytes
2116 bytes
1604 bytes
692 bytes
The latency is killing it. I see the TCP window size being as high as
17069 with 7678 being common.
The sendmail latency isn't spectacular, but at least uses ~64K packets.
So wazzup with dovecot?
I don't recall this being so much an issue with the old uwash imaps, but
then it's been a while since I've
used it and maybe my files weren't as large.
But it can take several minutes to save a file to a record file that
takes <1 second over network CIFS.

Thunderbird slow in talking with dovecot IMAP AND to sendmail
...and everyfrackin' body was using 4K packet sizes (at the application
level!, the window size on TCP was over 64K...but no one was using
it)....especially galling with my network's MTU at 9K, BTW, because
small packets are really bad on a 1Gb network.
sendmail -- 4K,
dovecot /ssl, 4K...
wazzup .. is t-bird forcing this, or is there some ssl requirement?
but it can't just be ssl -- as it's talking to sendmail on port 25
unencrypted (it's a local
net anyway)...
I could see the entire binary going out in text form...
1 line at a time...a "C" line in sendmail, with...

Questions still about a uw-imap -> dovecot conversion
The more I read about all of this, the more I'm thinking about moving to
maildir format. My switchover this weekend is full of holes due to the
way user's imap folders were laid out. Some had folders in their home
directory and others might have folders in their /home/mail directory.
Some how, Horde/Imp seemed to keep track of it. Dovecot is not doing so
well.
