HD Failures
I'm just curious if any one else has noticed this. I've bought hard drives from both Walmart and Best Buy. If I can wait, I order them from newegg.com. I'm beginning to think that the staff at both Walmart and Best Buy, somewhere along the supply line must dribble the drives like basket balls. The reason I say that is all the drives I have bought from those two places fail within a few...

couple basic questions
My desire to run Asterisk is finally giving me the reason to install a Linux box at home. Is RH9 the only distro that Asterisk will run on, and can anyone recommend a good source for a cheap Linux (RH9) box? For example, walmart.com has microtel boxes with no OS. Will RH9 and Asterisk run on these boxes? Thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... how do I download pictures from a dumb phone?
How do I download pictures from a dumb phone? I have a Samsung phone I bought at a Walmart. According the the front, it worships Verizon. Beyond that, I'm not at all sure what kind. If I use a real USB connector to connect it to my PC, CentOS sees it as a character special device. What, if anything, I can do with that device, I do not know. I've not found any settings related to...

H&R Block Tax cut with wine
...ally starting to work on my taxes. Wine seemed to install Tax Cut with out any problems. However, when I tried to start Tax Cut 2004 , it complained that Mozilla did not have an active X Browser and offered to go on line and get one. Unfortunately I have a WinModem and dial up connection with WalMart that only supports Connection with windows. So that seems to be the end of my attempts to do my taxes with Linux for this year. Perhaps things will work better in 12 months when I try again next year. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: http://www.win...

T100P & Phones Configuration
Below you will find, what I believe to be a typical setup with a T100P card. My question is - 1. Is this correct? 2. What kind of phones would be needed here... (Would you have to use Digital phones) And if so what would you recommend. PRI/T1----- | | | ---------------- | | | Channel Bank | | |

Looking for player recommendations...
I'm looking for personal recommendations for low cost flash based players which support Vorbis (speex and flac support would be nice, but aren't mandatory). Solid support (no weird limits for low and high bitrates) is required. I'd be buying a fair quantity of them to give away as prizes and gifts. I'd rather purchase players which have native Vorbis support rather than buying

TDM 400 hardware(?) issue
...OK 0 0 0 I asked about this once before and I am asking again in desperation, as I have had to shut off my asterisk server, take all the VOIP phones out of service, and go back to the bad old days of a single cordless phone base with a couple of handsets and a crappy old WalMart answering machine. This sucks. Last time I asked, the most helpful answer I got was privately, saying that either my card is bad, or I might need a different motherboard (but there is no way I know of to know which motherboards would work and which would not; the last thing I would want is to go t...

softphone headsets
Anybody have a suggestion for a nice inexpensive headset for mobile users on a laptop with a softphone? What are people using for softphones on M$ platforms? I have been using the x-lite client. Is there something better out there? -- http://www.umich2.com

Potential opportunity for open media...
...In order to compete for what really counts (iPod sales, not music downloads), Apple MIGHT start to support other file formats. No guarantee on that. (http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20040101.html) Looks like a good opportunity for the open media crowd, and vorbis in particular. While Walmart are evil, they're also cheap, so they're bound to like a royalty free codec if they can get some company to produce cheap players. Re: Echo and other reasons to migrate to BRI from POTS? Was (Echo on PRI/BRI?)
...ll accidentally "answer" an incoming call when trying to place an outgoing call. Reasons not to migrate: more costly (about $15/month/channel), harder to configure (I'm a bit intimidated - can't have downtime), if the * server blows up one cannot simply plug in a $10 handset from Walmart to get some bit of functionality - MUST use ISDN hardware. Any experianced opinions on this? >Brent- >Echo can occur for all sorts of reasons- analog conversions as someone else >already mentioned, 4 wire to 2 wire in particular- but could also occur in >the IP path due to network is...

why a perfectly fine iax2 host becomes UNREACHABLE?
I've got this low-ping 100%-up dsl connection between two asterisk 1.2.7.1 servers. And oftentimes one of them would declare its opposite UNREACHABLE. Why can this happen? The host stanzas in iax.conf have raw IP's, so no DNS monkey business here.. An inquiring mind wants to know.
