How to purchase R on CD
My organization has a policy against "installing software downloaded from
the Internet." There is a waiver procedure, but it is difficult and
lengthy. It is much easier to get approval to purchase software, even if
it is a CD copy of open-source.
However, a search on r-project.org didn't seem to show any way of obtaining
the distribution in this way.

911 and lawsuits
Just curious if any of the Asterisk installers are doing anything special
to protect themselves from a possible lawsuit caused by 911 failure
during a Asterisk/computer crash?
I realize that any traditional PBX or even a phone line can fail but,
anything running on a computer is probably going to be less reliable
than most PBXs.

RFC for f18+runtimes in LLVM
Hi, everyone,
As you may know, NVIDIA has developed an open-source Fortran frontend for LLVM (http://flang-compiler.org), which consists of the flang frontend itself along with the corresponding Fortran runtime library. The existing frontend's code is mostly written in C, and while a production-quality implementation, does not follow modern software-engineering practices.
Our long-standing

Reconfiguring wide frame to long frame
Greetings, fellow R'ers.
How can I get this frame in R:
ID meas ID.1 meas.1
1 1.1 3 1.2
2 2.1 4 2.2
to look like this (stacking):
ID meas
1 1.1
2 2.1
3 1.2
4 2.2
It's not really the reshape function (or is it?) because we can consider
the additional columns, viz., ID.1 and meas.1, as independent of ID and
meas so it is basically a stacking

Permutations with replacement
Is there a simple function or process that will create a matrix of
permutations with replacement?
I know that using the combinat package

# we can get the permutations, for example 3!=6
# gives us

Calculateing means
Dear List,
I have a data matrix with 570 columns containing 95 (samples) with 6 replicates each.
How can I calculate the mean of the replicates for 95 samples?
Thank you.

looping using combinatorics
I have a problem where I need to loop over the total combinations of
vectors (combined once chosen via combinatorics). Here is a
simplification of the problem:
STEP 1: Define three vectors a, b, c.
STEP 2: Combine all possible pairwise vectors (i.e., 3 choose 2 = 3
possible pairs of vectors: ab,ac, bc)
NOTE: the actual problem has 8 choose 4, 8 choose 5 and 8 choose 6
combinations.

tftpd: write(ack): Operation not permitted
Dear list,
I'm having a randomly occurring issue with tftpd-hpa. One of the clients
from time to time looses the possibility to access the tftp server.
Neither put nor get is working when this happens. In syslog:
tftpd: write(ack): Operation not permitted
I increased verbosity level but nothing interesting was logged. When
this issue happens the only way to regain connectivity is to

Problem shuting down server.
Have Centos 5.3 installed in a HP ML110 server. After cloning disk using
Clonezilla, if I issue a shutdown -h now, or any other command to shut
down the server (i.e. init 0 or poweroff), instead of shutting down the
server reboots.
I googled but could't find any answer. ?Does anybody has a clue about
why this is happening?

Files no longer appear on windows drive map
I have a share called 'text'. Some of the filenames in the unix directory
no longer display on a NT mapped drive.

MC010625.P0
MC010625.P1
MC010625.P3

In the same unix directory, these files will display

Rgui.exe fix for "console not found" buffer overflow problem
I'm using R on Windows XP Professional SP2.
I figured out the fix for my buffer overflow problem that did not allow me
to use Rgui.exe for about two weeks. I would keep getting "console not
found" and even when I uninstalled and re-installed got the same problem.
Here's how the problem started. In Rgui.exe, I attempted to get more
visible output in the buffer (I wanted

It's not a web server port - elasticsearch is a database.

Transparent proxy with LVS
I've managed to configure a LVS Cluster to act as a transparent proxy
squid farm, with a virtual server as load balancer, and three real
servers. Because redirecting packets going to port 80 to port 3128 of
squid in the load balancer doesn't works, the solution has a mix of ip
route and iptables.
Here is the script I wrote to configure transparent proxy.
#!/bin/bash
