As nice as this sounds, the selection of possible algorithms on the
(usually "internal network only") management interface is waaaaay low
on the priority list when shopping for a $50k router...

oggenc -n legal filename issue
I was about to patch oggenc to replace '/' in the strings included in the -n format [*], but that's too platform specific. Thinking waaaaay back, I realise that it's not even Windows versus the rest of the world. How should this be handled? The Windows criteria are probably generally useful, they include nuisance characters for shells, but I wouldn't like to lose colon unnecessarily (pun suppressed). It does make me wonder,...

defining polymorphic type condition
As great as Rails 2.1 is, I for the life of me cannot figure out why
polymorphic associations do not support reconfiguring the type column
used.
For example, I have no way to do a polymorphic association using a
lookup hash which maps an integer to a class name.
Storing a TINYINT unsigned is waaaaay more efficient than storing a
string like "SomeActiveRecordModel" over and over again.
Looking in the association proxy classes for has_one and has_many, I
see:
def construct_sql
case
when @reflection.options[:as]
@finder_sql =

bandwidth limiting when src and dst are on the same interface
...parent 10:11 sfq quantum 1514b perturb 15
tc filter add dev eth0 parent 10:0 protocol ip prio 100 u32 match ip \
dst xxx.xxx.225.20 flowid 10:11
Now, this doesn''t work. The customer is NOT limited to 512k. Tested.
Downloading from ftp (not on our network) was as fast as 143KB (which is
waaaaay more than 512kbit, even more than double that).
Now, is it impossible to do limiting that way? I don''t know.
Another possibility is the limiter sending ICMP redirects, I haven''t
tried disabling them yet. 225.1 is linux 2.2, 225.10 is linux 2.4
and 225.20 is some 3com ADSL stuff....

SOLVED- Re: help installing R on Linux Mint 21.2
Luben,
We all have different types of learning and how we approach this, let alone
how we decompose things. With that, sorry you found this frustrating. Many
of us put volunteer time into this trying to make things 'possible' and
preferably 'easy' but we don't always get there.
That said, I have shown multiple times over the last few years that the

The crypto policies are system-wide to disallow any software (using system crypto) from using unsafe/weak/unwanted algorithm, which is exactly what you are trying to do.
You?ll need to allow that system-wide by default, unfortunately. Luckily you can then disallow ssh-rsa in ssh-config by default and only enable it for a few hosts.
The correct solution is to throw whatever requires it to the

Anonymous Samba share across subnets (without WINS?)
...everything else, but I can't find anyone else in this same situation.
So, can anyone please suggest ways to make this work. I don't care how it's done, but the requirements are:
* Anonymous CIFS shares
* Works by name across subnets
* Without a WINS server on each subnet (we have waaaaay too many subnets, some in weird places)
* (Preferably) Without WINS altogether
Let me know if you need any specific information as far as config files, versions, or diagrams. Thanks in advance!

routing in xen 3.0 domU: icmp gets routed, but tcp/ip only partially
Hello folks,
I have a really strange routing problem that no amount of
googling and experimenting has been able to solve. Then
again, I''m new to Xen and "advanced" networking, so I could
be missing something very basic.
Summary: an unprivileged domU with PCI frontend for a NIC
is used as a router; icmp gets routed, but tcp/ip only
partially. I''m using a xen-unstable

htb traffic shaping problem
Hello.
I have a linux server connected to a gigabit lan, and though that lan to a
768kbps/768kbps DSL modem.
I''m trying to shape my webserver running on port 80/443 down to 512kbps,
while leaving all other ports alone. The current configuration script that
I''m using is as follows:
tc qdisc del dev eth0 root
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 99
tc class add dev

ZFS on Linux in production?
We are a CentOS shop, and have the lucky, fortunate problem of having
ever-increasing amounts of data to manage. EXT3/4 becomes tough to
manage when you start climbing, especially when you have to upgrade, so
we're contemplating switching to ZFS.
As of last spring, it appears that ZFS On Linux http://zfsonlinux.org/
calls itself production ready despite a version number of 0.6.2, and

"Rails recipes" vs "Rails cookbook"
Reviews Wanted.
I''ve read the tables of contents and haven''t yet made up my mind.
Is one book clearly better than the other? Is one clearly full of bugs? Is one so much
further ahead that there is no choice? Are they both so incomplete that I should just
wait and only cook real food? Do trains still have dining cars?
