device-mapper multipath
...ll my installs of
CentOS do not work. Note that I have tested a working 4.2
configuration file from RH on CentOS 4.2 and a working 4.3
configuration (it changed slightly) on CentOS 4.3. Neither worked. Our
production systems are RH 4.2 so the 4.2 configuration file is below.
Configuration:
Promise vTrak 300i iSCSI
iscsi-initiator-utils from 4.2/4.3
device-mapper-multipath from 4.2/4.3
Procedure:
1. Configure iscsi.conf and multipath.conf
2. Start iscsi: service iscsi start
3. Start multipath: service multipathd start
4. Make sure no stale paths exist: multipath -F
5. Scan and create paths: multip...

Experience with Promise Tech. arrays/jbod''s?
Greetings,
In looking for inexpensive JBOD and/or RAID solutions to use with ZFS, I''ve
run across the recent "VTrak" SAS/SATA systems from Promise Technologies,
specifically their E-class and J-class series:

Promise VTrak and CentOS 5
We're having a problem with Linux and/or the SCSI controller failing
to access an external RAID device. Components are:
SuperMicro 6025B-TR+V
CentOS 5.0 with yum update as of a week or two ago (kernel 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5)
Promise Vtrak M310p
Adaptec 29320 LPE -- aic79xx module
Sometimes this fails on the initial device probing (before the kernel
even begins to boot); sometimes the device is recognized ok and then
we get a failure later on in the boot sequence (and then the device
disappears).
RedHat Linux is in the compatibilit...

ISCSI SAN suggestion
Sorry for the off-topic question but I need advice on a buying a ISCSI
SAN for 4-6 servers running CentOS 4.4 .The main purpose for the SAN
is to store email accounts (that will be accessed by imap - dovecot)
and other documents. Minimal redundancy is required (e.g. dual power
supplies, battery backed write cache or mirrored controllers) and
price for a 2 TB configuration should be under $ 10000.

Newbie question: ZFS on Xserve RAID with Solaris 10
--Apologies if you get two copies of this message - it was submitted
for moderation and hasn''t appeared on the list in two days, so I''m
resubmitting.
Hi all,
Just a quick question. Is it possible to utilise an Apple Xserve RAID
as an array for use with ZFS with RAID-Z in Solaris?
I''ve seen various mentions of ''zfs'' and ''xserve

Errors... unknown problem?
My network currently uses samba version 3.0.14 and doesn't seem to have any
problems but alot of my logs repeat the following error message:

2005/08/09 09:29:42 : change_trust_account_password: Failed to change

There shouldn't be any passwords changing.

SAS/SATA DAS
I need to replace a slow HP MSA20 that's a bottleneck right now (We are an HP shop).
HP's only option with 3.5" SATA drives is stuck at SATA I behind a SAS controller.
Dell makes an MD1000 that claims SATA II speeds behind a SAS Perc 5/E (Don't know anything about dell).
Anyone got any real world info they can share? I need 3.5" SATA II at least 12 drives behind SAS,
I am

External SATA enclosures: SiI3124 and CentOS 5?
Tired of "little problems" trying to keep 7 drives working in an old desktop
computer, I'm considering an external SATA drive enclosure with a controller
card based on the Sil3124.
http://www.ipcdirect.net/servlet/Detail?no=152
I'm a bit concerned about long-term support, namely that the company's driver
page only lists drivers through RedHat 4.

We use Communigate Pro and the server has 45 Outlook clients with the MAPI connector (All mailboxes on the server).? question regarding smbutil
Hello,
I'm trying to use smbutil with the user/pass/host argument.
I have no problem using it this way....
smbutil -v view //user@host
Password: *******
but if I try this way....
smbutil -v view //user:pass@host
it prompts me for a password when I already specific it in my command line.
Am I using the right syntax? Please let me know. Thanks.

j4200 drive carriers
apparently if you don''t order a J4200 with drives, you just get filler
sleds that won''t accept a hard drive. (had to look at a parts breakdown
on sunsolve to figure this out -- the docs should simply make this clear.)
it looks like the sled that will accept a drive is part #570-1182.
anyone know how i could order 12 of these?
