gdm-restart/gdm-safe-restart
Hi all, On a CentOS 4.2, x86_64 system, I created a new session that is selectable from the sessions list in GDM. To make GDM see the changes, I ran the following: gdm-safe-restart That's supposed to make GDM re-read it's config files. Well, it worked, but instead of staying on vt7, GDM moved to vt9. At first it looked liked GDM had died, but I ran ps aux|grep gdm, and found it running on vt9. Odd, that. I then tried a gdm-restart, and GDM disappeared again. It had moved to vt10. Odder, still. I was only able to get GDM to restart on vt7 by killing the GDM process, or by...

...rying to sort this out. The ?startx? command will run Xorg with -keeptty if you launch it from a VT console. I believe this is related to non-setuid Xorg and systemd-logind, but it?s been a long time since I?ve cared about startx. I prefer graphical login prompts. I think you can run startx with a vt7 parameter if you want the old behavior. > What happened to cause this concern to me. My GUI totally and completely locked up on me last week. Black screen returning from console
Another problem I'm experiencing is that when I switch to the console and switch back to the desktop (vt7) it is all black, some colour remaining of the bottom panel exists for a couple of pixels along the bottom of the screen. My console is running frame buffer and gensplash. I've got compiz running with my ATI driver, and xorg 7.1.1 Is there a known bug between the frame buffer and Xgl? Should I...

Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings broken under xen 3.0.3-142.el5_9.1 / 2.6.18-348.1.1.el5xen?
...he main console to watch some kernel verbage (I was checking something with hot-swap SATA disk). I discovered that I could not switch back to my X11 session (Ctrl-Alt-F7)! I did some googling, but did not find anything. So far as I can tell, I can switch to one of the other VT (Ctrl-Alt-Fn) *from* VT7 (my X11 session), but cannot then switch to any other VT from there, using the Ctrl-Alt-F? key bindings. The chvt command works, but the keybindings don't. It is most strange. I know this used to work (and still does work just fine on my laptop, running much the same system, including the sam...

[Bug 27398] New: displayport: x server does not draw anything on ThinkPad T410
...tachment.cgi?id=34582) dmesg when DP-1 is plugged in This happens when booting with an external monitor attached to Displayport on ThinkPad T410. After loading nouveau.ko the main display on LVDS-1 switches to hi-res framebuffer (KMS) like during normal boot. But when X is started, it switches to vt7 and then nothing happens - neither is the frame buffer is redrawn anymore, nor the external display is enabled. This is not a lockup, though. I can switch back to vt1 with ctrl-alt-f1, and I can login into the x session by blindly typing username/password (though xdm) or start gtk-demo from vt1. (S...

[Bug 80675] New: KMS FB hand-over: no/black console on Nvidia MCP78S/C77/GeForce 8300 (10de:0848), X11 ok
...with 3.13.6 kernel [2] Yes, I've read: http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/KernelModeSetting/ The consoles disappear (black only) once Nouveau switches to its framebuffer. If KMS is disabled, the consoles stay visible, i.e. vesa-fb works. Console switching still works, i.e. switching to/from VT7 where X11 runs fine is possible. When switching, the display goes black but switching back to VT7 restores the X11 display. When using fbcon=map:1 kernel parameter, behavior changes just slightly when console switching: The X11 screen stays (no switch to black screen) but seems to freeze. Switchin...

Guest using a VPN connection
...m1 connects via the VPN, all access to its LAN is removed. I am hoping that one of the following will be possible, and that experienced Xen users will be able to say so: + Provide dom1 access to one of dom0''s virtual terminals in the same manner that two X displays could be access on VT7 and VT8. Is it possible to tell xen that if some one types ALT-CTRL-F8 that this belongs to the guest? + Use SDL. I''m new to Xen, but reading the documentation it seems that SDL is only usable with Intel''s VT support. Am I correct? If not, can some one let me know wha...

[LXC] Attempt to start X in guest makes host X die
.../cgroup/devices/libvirt/lxc/Rawhide/devices.allow to allow me to create all the necessary devices in /dev in the guest (dangerous, I know, but I only ran that command after the guest systemd finished booting). This is with the nouveau open source driver. I ran X using /usr/bin/startx -- :7 vt7 Immediately the host X server dies, even though it's on a different virtual terminal (VT1). It seems to be something to do with DRM. The /var/log/Xorg.0.log in the host says something about drmSetMaster failing. What's strange is that according to the guest Xorg.7.log, DRM opening fail...

Xgl/Compiz - Kernel, ATI, Console, and Multihead problems still unresolved
...ut lacking dri, so i'm using 8.27.10. * Using 2.6.18 kernels, the ati-drivers-8.27.10 don't compile when building the drm module. * My laptop automatically switchs to vt1 when init services fail (changing power levels changes runlevels and some services may fail), switching manually back to vt7 always leaves a black screen. I must kill xgl and all applications i had running :'( * ATI's BigDesktop is still not working. It works at the gdm level, but as soon as compiz kicks in it all crashes. Does anyone have things i can try, or report better, than just sitting around waiting for...

crtc not turned off after X shutdown?
...n never suspends. I've seen this esp happen on pre-nv50 cards, although it might happen on nv50+ as well (it's just not a setup I've used too often). A potentially related issue is that when I have 2 instances of X running on separate cards (and on separate vt's), switching between vt7 and vt8 does not cause the opposite card to stop showing an image. However the cursor disappears (and appears on the switched-to card). Hopefully I've been clear in describing the issue. How KMS ties into vt's/etc is an area I haven't explored at all, so perhaps this is expected. -i...
