Wine + Wineasio + JACK + Various VSTs
Recently I've been browsing the app database and saw that it's possible to run Guitar Rig 3 and various other VSTs through wine and wineasio.
And I did get it to work - the only problem is that there's a lot of humming noise on the input, a lot more than there is in Windows. Now, I know that this is probably because of the alsa driver or something similar but I didn't know where to post this question el...

possible regression in wine1.2-rc7 - GUI and VSTs
...three apps are all run as standalone, to clarify....
rather than using FST or a VST host.
I do also use SAVIHOST. To wrap my VST - .dll files into .exe - Some
of these plugins are now causing xruns as well, where they didn't
before.
While i do expect the odd xrun to be had, running windows VSTs in
linux. I am surprised to see more happening now, i am not sure how i
could help. but would be more than willing to, in any way i can.
There are many of us linux pro-audio people using Windows VSTs and i
would hate to see apps that have worked smoothly for a long time start
to degrade and no long...

OpenMPT can use VSTs, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't use ASIO.

Not true. You were told by two people to run a regression test and file a bug.

Can somebody give a recipe to reproduce the problem
that uses only freely downloadable apps?

Hey David!
I haven't been able to do anything productive; if
anything, it's a proof-of-concept. I've got it to
run, show notation, run DXIs, VSTs, open up BUN files,
playback audio, etc. DXIs/ VSTs are sluggish, but it
runs. It doesn't work with later versions of Wine;
you can see all my notes here:

Let me know how far you get! :)

Wine 1.2 breaking VSTs, making unusable/glitchy. these plugins have been platinum for a long time :( now are almost useless
...en there ever will be
linux gaming distro's. A lot of linux musicians require wine, as Linux
doesn't exaclty have a lot of Pro - type plugins and yet VST support
hasn't changed much, and i think is actually getting worse. (it's
frustrating).
I use wine for Photoshop, but mostly for VSTs using WineASIO + jack.
For the latter, i would be more than willing to give any information
needed to sort out some of these new issues, that are slowly ruining
my Pro-audio setup.
something new in wine is causing the problem, i don't know how to get
to the bottom of it. but i am more than wil...

wine-20050111 - missing MSVCR71.dll
...st likely
cause of this and how should I approach fixing it on my system? My
current setup is wine-20050111 from source. After it was built all
existing .wine directories were deleted and wine --version was run to
set them up. I have not used Winetools yet.

I believe the problem is the missing MSVCR71.dll file. Was this

Wine question - sort of... program that ran now crashes
Hi,
I run Gentoo on my audio box and for the last few weeks have been
using a fairly complex setup that uses Wine-20040505. In this
environment I am able to run small Windows apps called 'VSTs' under
Wine and using Jack for pretty much real time audio performance. It
had been working very well.
From a Linux perspective the signal flow looked a bit like:
Rosegarden->jack_fst>Ardour
and jack_fst wraps around a Widows program called 'Battery'.

7.0.1-rc2 release has been tagged please begin testing
Hi,
The 7.0.1-rc2 release has been tagged and is ready for testing. I forgot
to bump the version number to 7.0.1 before I tagged -rc1, which is why we
are now on -rc2.
Remember, you can continue to submit merge requests up until Nov, 21,
so keep testing and submitting fixes.
Thanks,
Tom

status of Jack?
Hi,
Could someone please explain me what is the current status of the jack
audio back-end?
(Both midi and audio.)
The feature to switch back-end seems to have disappeared from winecfg,
and I can't find anything useful in the docs either.
Thank you for your help:

Native Instruments Battery3
Hi to all,
I'm trying to run Battery3 with Wine, but I'm experiencing some problems.
1. When I launch Battery (command line) I see these messages:
---
fixme:win:RegisterDeviceNotificationW (hwnd=0x50062, filter=0x32fcb0,flags=0x00000004) returns a fake device notification handle!
