VQ generation utilities ready + usage instructions
...it :-). genericvqtrain is a generic trainer that trains based on a mean squared
error.
each trainer takes the same command line syntax (run with no args to see it):
xxxxvqtrain basename [options] inputdata.vqd [options] [inputdata.vqd]...
...to train a set from scratch or:
xxxxvqtrain basename-n.vqi [options] [inputdata.vqd]...
...to continue training a set
'basename' is used as the root name for theoutput file. In the case of a new
set, the file produced is basename-0.vqi (the output is a 'vq intermediate'
file). When continuing to train a set, specify the name of the inter...

Dump utility?
Is there any dump utility that exists for vorbis streams?
What I am intersted in is something that will do a break down like:
How many bits are used for encoding _each_ codebooks, how many bits are
used for the residue, how much is used for the lpc coefficints. A
selective dump of the codebooks themselves would be nice too of course.
I'm wondering if anyone has such a little dump utility.

codebook training
...n, which complied OK. Then I run it on the previously generated resaux_short.vqd and resaux_long.vqd files, trying different entries, dim and
q_quant parameter values. However the result was the same:
- the iteration did not converge,
-the metric error was high (in the 1-10 range)
-the produced .vqi file contained some #IND values as biases.
-when I run VQBuild on the resulting .vqi files, it reported lots of duplicate entries, and removed.
Can anyone please tell me what could be wrong? Even better, can anyone show me some docs about training codebooks for Vorbis?
Thanks

.vqd example?
Hi, I'm trying to build an lsp codebook to learn about the
process, and I'm afraid that the vq hints
http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis-dev/0000.html
talk rather about residual training.
So I can now produce .vqi files and add to them with lspvqtrain,
but can anyone supply hints for the rest of the procedure?
vqbuild will only produce a "cloud"-type quantlist, and
sequencep is pretty much ignored.
But if you use it anyway, you can go by hand through the xxx.vqh
file and guesstimate enough to mak...

Virtio ballooning support for Lguest
Hi,
I am doing working on enabling Transcendent Memory(OLS '09) support on
lguest.
For the same, I need ballooning support for lguest. Is there an
implmentation of Virtio Balloon driver, that I can use for my purpose?
Could someone give me an insight, as to how to go about, for implementing
this myself, incase I dont find this patch...
Thankyou.

...all,
<p>I have read the the source code about codebook generation, but there are
some puzzles:
Where can I get a latticebuild description file?
How does one choose reasonable value0..value n on the second line of the
latticebuild description file(.ql) to latticebuild?
Does the output (xxx.vqi) of the resvqtrain have some relationships to the
latticebuild description file ?
Where can I get these information?
Thank you!

questions re residuevqtrain
...the lowest value
seen for it and for 'metric error' in this run was actually at pass 0.
Does this mean that we should just stop at pass 0, or that the metrics are
wrong, or is something else going on here?
4. If I'm reading the 'quantized entries' from the output .vqi file
correctly, it looks as if there are a large number of duplicate entries
(maybe because of quantization?). Isn't this bad? Or am I misreading?
(In my example, I'm reading the first six lines as the first codevector,
and so on.)
I have more questions, but I'll stop...

Gapless Support
Hi,
i?m not part of the FLAC project, but i have a question regarding FLAC and
Gapless support
I hope, I get an answer from some of you ;-)
We are currently try to add Gapless support on our device
If we rip an CD
with our device, we can find out, that one track follow after another so we
can
recognize, that the tracks are gapless or not.
But how can we find that out on already existing
