PP's out_vorbis winamp plugin based on RC1
I just found a message in vqf's forums http://www.vqf.com/bbs/display.php3?board=VQF.comForum&DISP=12831 that says: Have you tried vorbis output plugin for winamp ? it already support rc1 encoding! http://www.blorp.com/~peter/ --> see misc ! I checked this plugin and found it was based on libvorbis RC1. I wonder...

Vorbis / Delphi Question
...Delphi, but I'm not sure of their accuracy. Anyone who is willing to check me on my accuracy, I'd be happy to either hand you a copy of what I've done so far, or I can work with you on the phone or on-line to verify it all. One important thing to note is I haven't touched the .vqf files yet, as encoding is not a big deal for me right now. As I read it, I don't need these for decoding. If this is incorrect, someone please let me know. Thanks! Tim -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Tim Gustafson tim@falconsoft.c...

Compile Problems
Hello, I've been trying to compile some things but have run into some problems. I've have the vorbis directory inside of /usr/src. I have compiled vorbis itself with no problems. I've also copied the results to their respective directories as per the README file. I've also compiled the XMMS plugin with no problem. However when it is installed in the

new MS codecs
I thought this might be interesting to you, it's an extract from the latest streaming media newsletter, I was intrested to note that MS are claiming cd quality audio at 48kbps whichi is obviously very low, I didn't think much of it at first because nobody uses MS codecs for audio anyway! However (a bit I missed off this quote by the look of it) I then read mention of portable audio players

Wavelet audio codec by Adapted Wave Tech.
Following a post on vqf.com forum, I found out that some company called Adapted Wave Technology is ready to release its audio codec based on wavelets. They say that this wavelet-based codec is superior to MDCT codecs by 30-50%. One sentence caught my attention: "Adapted Wave Technologies holds exclusive patent rights...

Reading/Writing Ogg Vorbis tags from a Perl script
Hi, I wrote a quite useful perl script (and I am still working on it) that does all the renaming and tagging of my MP3 files automatically (which is very useful because I am an order fanatic and everything has to have MY format). I'm not quite done with ID3v2 support but that will probably work soon. As I am planning to start using Ogg Vorbis instead of MP3 in the future I am already now

vorbis.com/faq.html
What is Ogg Vorbis? Ogg Vorbis is a new audio compression format. It is roughly comparable to other formats used to store and play digital music, such as MP3, VQF, AAC, and other digital audio formats. It is different from these other formats because it is completely free, open, and unpatented. ...and sounds a lot better at comparable bitrates. Licensing...

Vorbis transform description
...y.) The trick is that the floor curve tends to have formant-like features due to the rolloff properties of masking tones. These can be encoded into a low-order IIR LPC filter (20-30 poles, simplified direct form II. Basic speech compression stuff). Speech compressions (and, I might add, TwinVQ [VQF]) encode 20 pole systems into 20-28 bits. With a little effort, a standard algorithm like Levinson-Durbin can be used to generate a filter with a frequency response within a few percent of the desired curve across the spectrum. Unlike speech compressions and TwinVQ, Vorbis never applies the LPC f...

bit rate
It's technically good at streaming for broadcasters because, if it encodes something simple, it drops the bitrate and therefore our costs. And it sounds great too, but you wanted technical reasons... ! By the way, Virgin Radio UK's broadband streams are now proper stereo, instead of the suspicious mono-sounding version you had for the past few weeks - so if you want your non-technical

Idea for gapless tracks
We all know that currently Vorbis is the only codec out there that doesn't add any silence to the decoded file, so when you decode your .ogg file the resulting .wav will be exactly the same length as the original one. This is very useful when encoding gapless songs (like live concerts...). But since Vorbis is a lossy codec, even though there is no silence added, sometimes you can still hear a
