MS Outlook
If you are using Microsoft Outlook and you are reading this message you need to make 500% sure you are not propagating virii. I posted our support (at) nufone d0t net addy on this mailing list last night and have never posted it in an unprotected fashion like that anywhere else. So far today we have received over a hundred email virii to that address. I suggest you upgrade to a more secure email client that doesn&...

ClamAV reports a trojan
...achine and run tests on the suspect file there. or better yet: mount drive from suspect machine on trusted machine. These would be general guidelines for forensics. In particular (someone more knowledgeable will correct me if I'm wrong): clamav is a scanner that is designed to detect viruses (virii I should use for plural as it is Latin word) that can attack MS Windows. In general, these viruses can not do anything to Linux system. Therefore, if clamav detects as "infected" one of the files belonging to Linux distribution, it should be considered a "false positive". After...

My authenticated users send whatever they want without any filtering, scoring, scanning for virii (that is Latin plural for virus). But if there is problem created by my user, it definitely will be properly addressed, with user, in person. Internet threat management package
...hat I'm not giving money to companies that only provide software for Windows. (or, supporting companies that provide software solutions for Linux, depending on how you look at it.) Not even sure if I have the right idea. I would assume that Linux clients are not completely invulnerable to virii, spyware, and rootkits, and that it would make sense, in a small corporate environment to guard against them, the same as Windows machines... but the lack of options seems to suggest otherwise? Anyone have any tips, advice, or recommendations? Thanks!! -- J.

On my Debian Sid system, I CAN double click. I did not do anything I recall to enable this. I assume (maybe incorrectly) that binfmt package is what enables this. So how does one configure this correctly? 1. The above-mentioned virus vunerability--is...

dovecot vs cyrus, uw, etc.
I've been doing research on switching our current e-mail server (qpopper, sendmail) to imap. The decision on which server to use is essentially down to Cyrus and Dovecot -- I like Cyrus' approach to a lot of things, but the "blackbox" nature of it makes some niceties like using spamassassin and procmail difficult, or at least counterintuitive. Dovecot seems to play nicer with

I am facing customers every other day complaining about their Cisco router performance which usually turns out to be caused by virii. (In particular these days.) Sure it shouldn't be, but that's fighting the symptom, not the root cause. Helge

...hting spam, each of them is merely MTA. Postfix, however, having human readable configs with rather logical logics makes it easier (for me) to administer, therefore easier (for me again) to integrate with anti-spam components (amavisd, spamassassin, clamav - the last to scan for viruses - or rather virii I should say as that is plural of latin word ;-) Just my $0.02. Trouble redirecting traffic on transparent bridge.
...web server running locally on this bridge configured so that any request sent to it returs the only page. I''m trying to get all web traffic (port 80 for now) from certain clients transparently redirected to the local web server. Basically I want to take traffic from a client matching virii/malware traffic and redirect it to a web page that has instructions for disinfection/cleaning. Also I want to isolate any infected clients traffic to only one side of the bridge. I want to keep these bridges as "transparent" as possible. Here''s what I have tried so...

maildir quotas, dovecot-lda
Hey guys, Running rc15, I have maildir quotas working with deliver - however I seem to be unable to get the maildir quota ignore option to work. Am trying to ignore a user wide directory "Maildir/Filtered/", where detected virii/spam gets sorted to. Does deliver take notice of the maildir ignore option ? Which antivirus for a Samba (Debian) fileserver?
I'm looking for an antivirus program for a Samba fileserver (PDC). Is ClamAV good enough? It seems to be mainly used for mail servers... Any other suggestion, free or non-free? I tried F-secure antivirus for linux servers but it keeps giving problems. All clients use F-secure which i centrally manage from another linux server which is pretty good imo. I read other people suggesting to use
