Virgin Radio launches an Ogg stream
Apologies if this is a bit of a commercial post (I've not been lurking
long), but you might like to know that the world's most listened-to online
radio station has just launched an Ogg stream. (As of today!)
http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/ogg.html
(or alternatively www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen from a non MSIE+PC
browser).
Any ideas you have to help promote this stream would be very much
appreciated; we're a strong believer of Ogg here at Virgin Radio, and we'd
like to push it as much as we...

And it sounds great too, but you wanted technical reasons... !
By the way, Virgin Radio UK's broadband streams are now proper stereo,
instead of the suspicious mono-sounding version you had for the past few
weeks - so if you want your non-technical reasons, do visit us.
www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen from any non-MSIE browser. (Users
with Mozilla on the PC - there's a test Ogg embedded player for you to play
with.)

Virgin Radio now on ices2 - yp not working though
...ternoon I've transferred our Ogg Vorbis Icecast2 streams from darkice
to the ices2 encoder. Apologies if you were trying to listen; I had to stop
and start the streams a few times. They should be stable now as I'm off down
the pub now! As a reminder, the URL for the streams is at
http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/ogg.html.
Ices2 takes slightly different parameters to the darkice encoder, so I'd be
grateful for any feedback on whether the streams sound better or worse. The
main change I've made is that our lower bandwidth '32kbps' stream is now
broadcasting in mono, w...

Virgin Radio Classic Rock now in Ogg too
...and vorbis lists,
and the slightly commercial nature of this post.
Virgin Radio Classic Rock, which is a sister station to Virgin Radio, is now
also available in streaming Ogg Vorbis. We also have 'now playing'
information working on both services.
Links and more information at
http://www.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/listen/ogg.html
The 96kbps Virgin Radio Classic Rock stream appears to sound better than the
96kbps Virgin Radio stream. We're looking into why; it will probably be
something to do with the audio processing before it gets to the encoder.
Thanks to all those who have helped us...

Listening to Ogg streams with MacOSX
This comes from Indymedia audio list, Whamb! should probobally be listed
on the vorbis.com software pages.
----- Forwarded message from nathaniel t <vsea75@hotmail.com> -----
The whole world doesn't use Linux or Windows. Some tiny fraction of
computer users use Macs. I didn't realize until yesterday evening how
difficult and mysterious it is to try to listen to an icecast ogg

If the whole first portion of the file is missing, then regenerating the
header is, in the abstract, a hard problem involving searching a very
large solution space. In practice, many encoders

Directshow filters 0.64.7878
Updated again... theora works and seeks properly (not to keyframe) in WMP 9
and 10.
You can encode from a bunch of onew input types like RGB32, RGB24, IYUV etc.
And fixed a bug that was stopping the filters being used in a activeX
control in an IE browser.

Enjoy,
