object '---' not found
...have come across an error message in a very simple command that I am unable to resolve. I bring data in through excel .csv files and check them to be sure R reads them correctly and has everything assigned as it is in the excel file. It looks good. But simple computations are not working > sd(VIQ) Error in sd(VIQ) : object 'VIQ' not found I copied the object out of the R table of the data, I know it is correct. Thank you in advance and for understanding my greenness. Emily -- View this message in context: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/object-not-found-tp4546367p4546367.html Sen...

Questions and hints: - Is there already a ridit function in R? - Argument ``b.sel.attrs'' could be omitted. - Perhaps there are more efficient ways than calculating: viq.ridit <- apply( t( t(x) * vjq.ridit.attr ), 1, sum, na.rm=T ) / apply( x, 1, sum, na.rm=T ) - There seems to be a problem with the recursive call of CALC.ridit() when attr.groups is set to a dataframe with as many rows as there are columns in x (third example). I think you are not using the best function for what your intentions are. Try: > by(data=mtcars, INDICES=list(as.factor(mtcars$am)), FUN=colMeans) : 0 mpg cyl disp hp drat wt qsec vs 17.1473684 6.9473684 290.3789474 160.2631579 3.2863158 3.7688947 18.1831579 0.3684211 am gear carb 0.0000000

Bug in by() function which works for some FUN argument and does not work for others
Dear Sirs, I am Professor at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India. While taking classes, I found the *by() *function producing following error when I use FUN=mean or median and some other functions, however, FUN=summary works. Given below is the output of the example I used on a built-in dataset "mtcars", along with error message reproduced herewith: >

read.table: wrong error message? (PR#10592)
--Apple-Mail-44--797532055 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I believe read.table may report misleading errors. In this example, where a header line in a file has an incorrect number of row names (28 instead of 29), I get the error message "duplicate row.names are not allowed". However, I cannot not find any
