ks.test "greater" and "less"
Hello r-group I have a question to the ks.test. I would expect different values for less and greater between data1 and data2. Does anybody could explain my point of misunderstanding the function? data1<-c(8,12,43,70) data2<- c(70,43,12,8) ks.test(data1,"pnorm") ks.test(data1,"pnorm",alternative ="less") #expected < 0.001

Faceting article
Hi, I've been involved in developing a fairly complex site at http://tilt.ft.com recently, and have acquired an unhealthy interest in faceting. I couldn't find any good non-academic guides to faceting strategy on the web, so I thought I'd have a stab at writing one. I'm not completely happy with it, but it's been sitting in my drafts for long enough that I thought it

Post hoc tests in gam (mgcv)
Hi. I'm analysing some fish biological traits with a gam in mgcv. After several tries, I got this model log(tle) = sexcolor + s(doy, bs = "cc", by = sexcolor) +log(tl) sexcolor is a factor with 4 levels doy is "day of year", which is modeled as a smoother tl is "total length of the fish" The summary of this models is (only parametric coefficientes): Parametric

Add lines to xy plot with temporal x axis
Hi. I'm trying to add some vertical lines to an xyplot in which x axis is a temporal variable (class=dates) and y axis a factor variable. This is my code: xyplot(factor(Abacus$Emisor)~Abacus$Dia,xlab="Date", ylab="Fish",pch=124, scales=list(x=list(format="%b %Y",tick.number=30)) , panel=function(...){ panel.xyplot(...) panel.abline(v=08/08/2008) }) I'd

interactions in GAMs
Hi all, I wonder if it's possible to include a double interaction in a GAM formula. Example: If I do this: mod=gam(energy~s(size, *by=color, by=sex*, k=5) + temperature, ...) I get the interaction betwen size*color and size*sex. But I need size*color*sex, being size a smoother. I've created a new variable (colorsex) which combines all the level of both color (2 levels) and sex (2

Error cannot allocate vector of size...
Hello, I have a memory problem when I run package WinBUGS with R (2.6.1). Until now I have been using a Pentium IV 3.2Ghz computer with 512Mb of RAM memory (with Windows XP Pro SP2), and I hadn't had any problem. Now I have a new computer with the following characteristics: Intel Core 2 duo 2.33Ghz and 3Gb of RAM memory (with Windows XP Pro SP2) and when I am running the same R syntax I
