Boston Rails work/Meeting Railers
...ng worked with web app dev since 1999, it''s
been a breath of fresh air. Now I''m at a point where I need to meet
more people in person that are excited about Rails, or are interested
in working on Rails projects in the same geographic location in order
to exchange ideas/discoveries/vibe/grab a beer (I''m realizing I''m not
really down with the "loner" aspect of freelancing... and
#rubyonrails, and this list, only go so far...) I''m also sort of
looking for more Rails work (project, contract, full-time if the
opportunity is good). I live in Boston....

Gen. Question

But many will not.
If you are only using the email for the list you should have used an
email that reflects that, Not an email that would server only to
confuse. I would be more concerned with the bad 'vibe' of your funky
email address than anything else.

Goong back to your question, I would add at the top of stuff you 'save'
on your server, the original URL of the site it was found. That why you
can give proper credit to the source. Many sites, disappear for various

Well, in the Windows world, Xiph are seen as Linux people. With all the positive
and negative vibes that is related. Just look at all the mess that happened with
the video integration in OGG (through Tobias W.'s DirectShow filter), or the war
of file extensions OGM vs OGG.

Philosophical questions
Disclaimer: The following are observations by a relatively new user
(couple of weeks) of RSpec and not intended as RSpec trollbait.
Also, forgive me if similar topics have been discussed elsewhere on
the mailing list. I at least did the due diligence of a quick search.
That said...
I''ve been positively thrilled with RSpec for use outside of Rails.
It has been in my attempts

Should FLAC join Xiph?
That is the question I put before you all tonight :)
(Short background, Xiph is the corp behind Vorbis and Ogg,
among other things; see http://xiph.org/about.html . I
think Emmett is here now so correct any of this if it's
wrong.)
I've been talking a little with Emmett Plant and Monty about
this. If it were to happen, it would mean the following:
1. FLAC would benefit from the

[OT] - Why should I answer a Newbie question, therethick!
If you really want to do this the asterisk list is based off of mailman.
You can learn all about mailman here:
http://list.org/
But really, what are the odds that newbs will know to go there first?
Are you going to moderate it? Someone has to actually answer the
questions you know, if a newb only list is going to exist.
Look, don't answer lame questions if you don't want to. Flaming a

Deprecation policy question
Olly and I have been discussing details of our policy for deprecating
features, and we thought it would be useful to canvas users opinions on
a particular aspect.
From time to time, we remove features from the library (usually because
we have a better replacement). To make life easier for users, we've
been following a deprecation policy, so that users are given plenty of

W2K and XP Offline files stopped working with 2.2.3a
Hi -
It appears that Samba 2.2.3a broke Windows ability to use offline files from
a Samba share. This used to work fine under 2.2.2. When a user syncs an
offline folder, everything appears to work properly, but once disconnected,
only a small portion of the files are visible in the offline folder, and the
files are not accessible - they give strange error messages about files
being read-only or
