VFW Codec
Hi everybody, I'm currently writing a real time video conferencing tool for Windows and I want to use the Theora Library for this purpose. My questions are: 1.) is there a vfw implementation of theora 2.) if no, can I bundle the VP3 vfw codec that's available from On2's website with my application Best regards, Florian (Stuttgart, Germany)

More introductions
...Theora will cater for my needs or if I should continue with my current development plans... --- end of quote --- This sounds really cool! We get our video from CDs and webservers--nothing fancy--and would definitely be interested in a simple, portable framework. The existing systems (QuickTime, VFW, Real) are very complex, frequently buggy, and messy to install. I think there's a real market for simple, self-contained VP3+Vorbis playback library. I'd love to see Theora evolve in this direction. How much work do you think would be required to get from here to there? Cheers, Eric -...

DirectX/DirektShow/VfW confusion runnning wine
Is anybody out there who has ever tried to install any kind of DV-Codec running wine to process dv/avi files generated by Kino/Cinelerra (like using TMPEG for compression) and is interested in sharing experiences? I'm just asking before posting to the list... On my side, TMPEG/VirtualDub work like a charme for most formats, but i can't get the lil' bastard to open dv-stuff.

RE: [vorbis-dev] ACM codec
...c doesn't hold in that case. Frankly though I sort of agree, in that Divx would have been even more popular and cause less headaches with a .DVX extension rather than AVI. I 100% agree that the form of the codec that should be distributed for playback is OGG. The reason to support ACM/DSHOW/VFW interfaces is more about getting inside the popular creation tools -- CD & DVD rippers for the most part, or tools that capture directly like Virtual Dub. The players (WMP, QT, Real) at this point can all accept file format plug-ins that would directly parse OGG files. On the creation side,...

Changing video quality during encoding
I don't know how to change a video quality on the fly - I want to provide a slider with a preview window, so user could see the result immediately in this window. I tried to send ICM_COMPRESS_FRAMES_INFO to encoder or calling ICSetState() - with no success however. Am I doing something wrong ? How can I set 'lDataRate', 'dwRate', 'dwScale' parameters ? I tried every

Installing vp31vfw.dll - how?
Hello, We put the DirectShow filters on hold till the release of our software (next week) and will integrate it into the first patch. Till then, our customers will ahve to live with a VP31 vfw hack. Now, my problem is that I need to integrate the vp31vfw.dll setup into a MSI file, because spawning another installer is not exactly an option. Can anyone post a list of complete registry keys that I need to push? My main prob,em is - I also downloaded the sources, but the .INF file tehre...

Theora support in ffdshow a ffvfw
Hi, I'm developing ffdshow and ffvfw codecs for Windows. You can read more about them at http://cutka.szm.sk and http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow. Stéphane Bérubé asked me recently if I could implement Theora support. I knew about first Theora release, downloaded its sources and tested it. I liked the results add decided to sup...

acm codec
does there exist anywhere a useful source version of an ACM for vorbis audio? I've seen the binary one somewhere in Japan, and there's an abandoned project at SourceForge, but I'm having a helluva time building it. I know all the caveats about CBR vs. VBR, ACM/AVI problems etc. but I need it anyway. Thanks in advance - ___ Dan Miller (++,) Founder, CTO, On2.com --- >8 ----

Using the VP3 ENCODER in a DIRECTSHOW GRAPH wit defined quality and BANDWIDTH - HOW?
Hello, Due to some licensing changes (and because I actually want to promote this, too) I want to replace our usage of Intel Indeo 5 with VP3 in a video conferencing pplication we are just developing (check: http://www.stnadby24.no/ for infos (english language) on the application). My problem is this: I need to define at least the bandwidth. I am feeding full frames from the camera with a given

Can't find the setup code
Well, I've been slamming my head against this all night, so it's time to ask for help... Having gotten together a reasonably decent port of what I thought was the whole API to the Ogg Way, complete with Ogg mem management and bitpacking, I started digging deeper in the code... only to find that it looks like I only have a middle stream handler. The encode and decode code both assume that

VP30
Hi, Can anyone tell me the significant differences between VP30 and VP31 (or are you allowed to)? Are there different token and quantizer tables? Are there algorithmic differences? I have a VP30-encoded file that plays with the VP3 VfW DLL but not with the open source decoder. Theora branch and win/mac codecs
...needs to be a connect-the-dots between both MAC and Windows toolsets to the final OGG/Vorbis/Theora bitstream. Monty & I have discussed this, and I think we're on the same page. The only problem is that there are some pretty thorny format limitations, especially wrt AVI files and the old VFW interfaces (which Vdub and some other popular programs use). These problems will necessitate putting some limits on what kinds of streams can be generated, so the codec versions (particularly on the audio side) may end up being subsets of the full OGG spec. Right now, I am basically the de-facto...

Ready for real use?
Hi all, I've been following Theora's progress for a while as the company I work for is looking at replacing the use of the MPEG1 codec with a royalty free alternative. I have evaluated Theora and I think in its current state it is quite close to doing to job as oppose to Dirac which still has a very long way to go. What I would like to ask is how far from 1.0 is Theora? I see periodic
