VFSTAB mounting for ProFTPD
...ng, though I would like to virtually mount some directory''s from my ZFS configurations. In a previous ProFTPD install on Ubuntu, I had in my /etc/fstab directory an entry like this: /HDD ID/directory /home/FTP-shared/information vfat bind 0 0 Though I am not able to do this with my /etc/vfstab. This is my entry in my vfstab config file: /tank/information /ftp/information ufs defaults 0 0 It is not mounting ... could someone guide me in what my config file is supposed to look like. zpool split problem?
Zpool split is a wonderful feature and it seems to work well, and the choice of which disk got which name was perfect! But there seems to be an odd anomaly (at least with b132) . Started with c0t1d0s0 running b132 (root pool is called rpool) Attached c0t0d0s0 and waited for it to resilver Rebooted from c0t0d0s0 zpool split rpool spool Rebooted from c0t0d0s0, both rpool and spool were mounted

...aid it later. every howto I find for linux says to half-raid the OTHER disk, COPY everything to it, then boot from it and wipe the first disk and then bond it as a mirror of the 2nd. Thats kind of ugly. in solaris, you can tell it that your existing partition is half of a mirror, update /etc/vfstab, then reboot, and then join a mirror to it. this seems much cleaner to me than copying everything. I tried to do this the solaris way, and at the first step, am told... # mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level=mirror --raid-devices=2 /dev/sda2 missing mdadm: cannot open /dev/sda2: Device...

flying ZFS pools
Hi everyone, I''m preparing around 6 Solaris physical servers and I want to see if it''s possible to create a zfs pool that I can make it as a shared pool between all the 6 servers (not concurrent, just active-passive way) is that possible? Is there any article that can show me how to do it ? sorry if this is a basic question but I''m new to ZFS area, in UFS I can just

SUMMARY: mounting datasets from a read-only pool with aid of tmpfs
...w "rpool", kind of like this: # zfs snapshot -r pool/rpool-backup at 20111119-05 # zfs send -R pool/rpool-backup at 20111119-05 | zfs recv -vF rpool Since the hardware was all the same, there was little else to do. I revised "RPOOL/rpool/boot/grub/menu.lst" and "RPOOL/etc/vfstab" just in case, but otherwise was ready to reboot. Luckily for me, the system came up as expected. That kind of joy does not always happen as planned, especially when you''re half-a-globe away from the computer you''re repairing ;) Good luck and strong patience to those in sim...

How to have ZFS root with /usr on a separate datapool
...parate raidz zpool. My zfs root takes only 500 megs and sits nicely on two 1 gig USB flash disks. zfs create tank/usr zfs set mountpoint=legacy tank/usr mkdir /mnt/usr mount -F zfs tank/usr /mnt/usr /usr/sfw/bin/gtar Ccp /usr . | /usr/sfw/bin/gtar Cxp /mnt/usr echo >>/zfsroot/etc/vfstab tank/usr - /usr zfs - yes - If you move /var to a separate partition, make sure you keep /var/run directory in your zfs root. Tested on b75a and b75a xVm should also work with b70, etc. kugutsumen You can find a patch for Tim''s script here: http://www.kugutsumen.com/showthread.php?t=...

snapdir visable recursively throughout a dataset
Is there an existing RFE for, what I''ll wrongly call, "recursively visable snapshots"? That is, .zfs in directories other than the dataset root. Frankly, I don''t need it available in all directories, although it''d be nice, but I do have a need for making it visiable 1 dir down from the dataset root. The problem is that while ZFS and Zones work smoothly

Virtual IP Integration
Has there been any discussion here about the idea integrating a virtual IP into ZFS. It makes sense to me because of the integration of NFS and iSCSI with the sharenfs and shareiscsi properties. Since these are both dependent on an IP it would be pretty cool if there was also a virtual IP that would automatically move with the pool. Maybe something like "zfs set ip.nge0=x.x.x.x mypool"

zfs root, jumpstart and flash archives
I understand that currently, at least under Solaris 10u6, it is not possible to jumpstart a new system with a zfs root using a flash archive as a source. Can anyone comment as to whether this restriction will pass in the near term, or if this is a while out (6+ months) before this will be possible? Thanks, Jerry

Small problem with src/lib/mountpoint.c
Greetings - Whilst playing with getting quotas from NFS-mounted filestores I've just discovered a slight problem with src/lib/mountpoint.c I had things working on a Solaris 10 test machine which had the mailstore mounted 'normally' using an entry in /etc/vfstab. However when I changed to use the automounter for the mailstore obtaining the quota broke. The problem lies with mountpoint_get(). On a 'normally' mounted filestore this obtains the device_path of the remote filestore in the form remoteservername.some.domain:/remote/path Ho...

Disabling zfs xattr in S10u4
Hi, I want to disable extended attributes in my zfs on s10u4. I found out that the command to do is zfs set xattr=off <poolname>. But, I do not see this option in s10u4. How can I disable zfs extended attributes on s10u4? I''m not in the zfs-discuss alias. Please respond to me directly. Thanks Balaji
