Extension languages and Compiz.
My recent work on Compiz-scheme has brought to my attention several problems preventing a real compiz extension language. Note that when I refer to an extension language, I am not referring to the ability to add plugins in some other languages, but more of something in the vein of emacs lisp. The major problem right now is extension languages are locked in to one plugin and what core exposes. What I mean by this is it's easy to add support for something like: (window-rule (make-rule (set-opacity-when (window-is tooltipp) 0.5))) However it's impossible to add supp...

[PATCH] v2v: allow configurable location for virtio drivers
Make the location of the Windows virtio drivers overridable with the environment variable VIRTIO_WIN_DIR, in the same vein as is done for virt-tools. mysql Workbench
Greetings, Is there a centos repo with mysql workbench anywhere. In the same vein, is there a publicly available build system for centos where people can submit the source tar.gz and get hotly baked rpm and the icing would be with some way to resolve dependencies?? It would be great to have one.. Regards and thanks, Rajagopal

API implementation "HOWTO"
Maybe my imagination is overactive, but I seem to remember reading some- thing in the vein of a HOWTO/tutorial on adding a Win32 API call to Wine. It discussed the SPEC file, header files, etc. I've searched the winehq website and the source tree, but I can't seem to find this. Anyone know what I'm thinking of? Thanks! -- =================================================...

R-beta: first view, then save plot or image?
...ible to first create the plot or image on screen so it can be viewed, THEN save it to file? Without doing plot() or image() again? (I ask because I have a complicated image computation that takes about 1-2 hrs to complete. I would like to view, then save it to file if I like it) Along a similar vein, is it possible to alter an image after it has been plotted on screen? That is, first create image, then decide I want a different palette of colours, then alter it. Again, is it possible to do without re-executing image()? (In my case, without waiting another 1-2hrs) Thanks very much for any he...

[Solved] A working CUPS authentication now fails without change anything...
.... > > Not all daemons are run as root, far from that. > Most of single-purpose daemons, such as cups, run as their own users. Yep, this is done for security purposes so that if one process is compromised, it doesn't have administrative access to the rest of the system. In a similar vein, you don't generally want any process on the machine to have access to some things. The system kerberos keytab is probably one of those. If cups is running as it's own user, a better solution would be to either generate a new keytab just for cups, or copy the existing keytab and make...

More CentOS5 nVidia fun
In the vein of the "Can't get resolution higher than 1280x1024" and "Another CentOS 5 oddity..." threads, I just installed CentOS5 w/Xen kernel on a Sony VAIO desktop with an nVidia NV5M64 (RIVA TNT2 64 Pro) card, using an old Samsung SyncMaster 700NF monitor. system-config-display cho...

Problem with rsync-cygwin between two WindowsXP machines
...(909) _exit_cleanup(code=12, file=/home/lapo/packaging/tmp/rsync-2.6.3/io.c, line=909): about to call exit(12) Almost all of my work directories have files with long names and spaces and it never does this on Linux? Are there any switches/precautions peculiar to the cygwin version? In another vein, has anyone created a COM or .NET assembly from the rsync algorithm? I have only done a tiny bit of programming in C, but can program effectively in VB... Seems like a straightforward project if the algorithm is available? Thanks for any help. Tom

Changing UPS to a bigger APC 1500 1000WA, what driver?
I've drug it as far under the table as I can get it on a 30% heart. Yeah, I'm getting on, I'll be 85 in about 2 weeks. Heart surgury will be scheduled in the next few days to replace a worn out, leaky aortic valve. Piece if cake if my veins are big enough. So what driver do I use with a Smart-UPS_1500??? Never mind it was found and accessed by the bootup! upsc my usp reports: gene at coyote:~$ upsc myups Init SSL without certificate database <<- whats this mean? battery.charge: 88 battery.charge.low: 10 battery.charge.warnin...

subsetting a data set
...s using commands like: summary (Max[Status=="Ecol"]) BUT how do I produce asummary for Ecol and Expert combined, the only example I can find suggsts I could use summary (Max[Status=="Ecol"& Status=="Expert"]) but that doesn't work. Additionally on the same vein, if I cannot work out how to create a new data set that would contain all the data for all the variables but only for the data where Status = Ecol, or where status equalles Ecol and Expert. I know this is yet again a very simple problem, but I really can't find the solution in the help or the...

Deos anyone know of a summary of conformability rules? along with a specific problem
The rules for conformability of objects required for various operators remain a mystery as do some related problems like the rules for recycling in creating arrays etc. Would someone be able to direct me to where such rules are stated? In a related vein, there are all manner of operations that are readily coded in Gauss or in MATA that fail, often mysteriously, in R. Are there some guidelines available? And here is a specific problem: I would like to carry out logical comparisons between a (vector?) of length EYE and each row o...

Before I write this myself, is there already an easier way?
Recently I''ve wanted to be able to take the data I''ve painstakingly defined in my fixture files and slurp it up into my development database so I can play with my website (locally, in development mode) with the same data I use in my tests. In a similar vein, I want to take the table definitions in the development_structure.sql file and use it to re-define my development database schema. Unless I''m missing something obvious, when someone changes the db schema commits it into our subversion repository, I always have to hand-update my devel...

Rconsole wishlist
...f R automatically issued a warning message when the R console buffer was about to fill so that you could save all your output into a text file? (I know about sink(), but I think it would be good to have an easier mechanism to save a complete record of messages and function output). And on a similar vein, wouldn't it also be nice if R automatically entered a date stamp into the history file?? Empty package skeleton
...I know this has been reported/asked before ( http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e15/devel/11/10/0831.html) but it would still be just nice to have a fix for the not user-friendly fact that one cannot create a completely empty package skeleton (see previous post for a suggested patch). In the same vein, I would add to the original suggestion from Herve Pages that it would be nice to have a quick way to create an empty package skeleton, skipping all objects possibly defined in .GlobalEnv, e.g. "package.skeleton('pkg', NA)", although I believe Herve's patch would automatically...

Opinions on Cisco 7960G, Polycom IP-600, and Snom 360
...e "office" line(s), and three or four support reps will be watching a technical support queue. Our environment dictates that we move around a lot, and not necessarily be tied to our workstations, so being able to take calls from any given phone is an important consideration. In the same vein, knowing the status of other staff (i.e. if they are on a call or idle) would be very useful, and is something we are used to with our current setup. please help (reposted) - re. * connecting to a commercial call service
...actually we are planning to use Go2Call.com Currently the company I work with already runs a number of callcentres where a client can walk in, pick up a phone & use a calling card, they are routed through hardware boxes made by Quintum (tenor A800) so i'm thinking of something in a similar vein but taking calls off the PSTN. Anyone who has any suggestions/sample configs/help etc. is more than welcome!! cheers Dave Alan Caruana Malta -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... [RFC] readtable enhancement
...f viewing coercion failure, I think, is that either the user-supplied converter has a bug in it or was mistakenly applied in a situation where it shouldn't have been. If thats the case the fail early and loud paradigm might ultimately be more helpful to users there. Another thought in the same vein is that if fallback occurs, the returned result will not be what the user asked for and is expecting. So either their code which assumes (e.g., that a column has correctly parsed as a date) is going to break in mysterious (to them) ways, or they have to put a bunch of their own checking logic after...
