R in sandbox/jail (long question)
...cal reasons I'd prefer not to setup a chroot jail. I have written a patch that adds a "--sandbox" parameter. When this parameter is used, the user's script can't create any kind of connection object or run "system()". My plan is to run R like this: cat INPUT | R --vanila --slave --sandbox --file SCRIPT.R > OUTPUT Where 'INPUT' is my chosen input and 'SCRIPT.R' is the script submitted by the user. If the script tries to create a conncetion or run a disabled function, an error is printed. This is the patch: http://cancan.cshl.edu/labmembers/gordo...

NetworkManager under CentOS 4 *without* GNome...
...ally.). I use FVWM as a window manager and don't use a "desktop manager" at all. I run CentOS 4.8 on my laptop (and no, I am in no hurry to upgrade to CentOS 5). I've started NetworkManager (as root) and started NetworkManagerInfo (both as myself and a 'dummy' user with a vanila GNome desktop), but NetworkManagerInfo complains that there are no network interfaces available. Where does NetworkManager/NetworkManagerInfo get information about available network interfaces? I know that *both* interfaces work just fine using the manual startup (eg ifup eth0 and ifup eth1). Is...

ACL: some maybe stupid questions
Hi. I want to use ACL on my RH-9.0 box (x86), so I got ext3 ACL patch from http://acl.bestbits.at/ and tried to apply it to the kernel that ships with RH (2.4.20-8). The patching fails on some vm file so I got a vanila kernel 2.4.20, apply the patch and compile it. This works fine. Also RH-9.0 precompiled Samba 2.2.7 works fine with ACL. I connected to my share with WinXP and do some testing with ACLs. After setting some permisions I checked in UNIX console what happens and I got: ---- # ls -ald mydir; getfacl m...

Xen 4.0 Custom kernels
Hi there guys. I''m using CentOS 5.4, I was able to compile my custom Dom0 kernel and boot it, now I''ve got some doubts. I''d like to compile a custom DomU image, the problem is that when I do, make kernels KERNELS="linux-2.6-xen0 linux-2.6-xenU" it tries to download the kernel from the HG repository which seems to have old 2.6.18 kernels, I want to use the GIT

[LLVMdev] linker errors when trying to link llvm-gcc
Hi Anatoly, > any ideas what library has these symbols > > lang_eh_catch_all > get_pointer_alignment > validate_arglist it sounds like you are trying to build a version of llvm-gcc without LLVM enabled. Did you specify --enable-llvm=path_to_llvm_build_directory when configuring llvm-gcc? These symbols are all defined in llvm-gcc itself, but only when ENABLE_LLVM is defined.

RHEL/CentOS 8 is created from Fedora 28/29 packages and kernel, but Red Hat does backport important drivers to it's kernel. RHEL/CentOS kernel is not directly comparable to vanila kernel due to many, many changes. You should read up on many things it seams. You can start with my FB post where almost all resources are listed along with some tips: https://www.facebook.com/groups/centosproject/permalink/10151629616222728/ And please stop SPAM-ing the list. Printing problems with Firefox
...up taking a screen shot with gimp of the Adobe acroread window and print that. :-( I have done two things: 1) Created a fresh profile and re-populated with my bookmarks, passwords, and addons. No difference. 2) Created a fresh profile and did not re-populate with with anything (basically a 'vanila' profile). I still have problems. It appears that there is some system setting or some package I have loaded (I have a bunch of packages from rpmforge and epel installed). I also have some extra fonts installed. I am not sure what the problem is. I have Seamonkey installed and Seamonkey *se...

Virtual interfaces shaping
I am using hostap driver as an Access Point and want to shape on this wireless interface. The thing with hostap driver (and others i think) is that it creates new virtual interfaces (wlanxxx) for every node that associates with it. Lets say i want to limit all outgoing traffic on wlan0 at 512 Mbits. The problem is that i cannot apply an htb configuration on wlan0, beacause some traffic is handled

I couldn't find any specific reference to this but maybe Im missing something completly... anyways, when trying to mix a few wav files together post-recording (the -in/-out files) using a pretty vanila soxmix line, I get the error: Done Mixing OUT115-20060215-150749-1139976460.7898-out.WAV..... Problem with smbfs on 2.4.18 kernel
...d is Abit BE6 with Pentium III 450 MHz. I am using SuSE 7.3 with all available patches. Base kernel was 2.4.16 from SuSE update but I wanted to change it now to 2.4.18. The same problem apperas in fact in 2.4.18 kernel distributed by Hubert Mantel from SuSE team. But as I realized it is also in vanila - I am reporting it to main developers I hope. Here are a lot of infos I could get during and after teh problem appears (lucky taht system does not hangs totally ;-)) If anything else is needed please let me know. Hope it can help you to find teh problem out. Best regard Marcin Gryszczuk. /*--...

Xenoprof in an HVM domain
I''m looking into getting Xenoprof to tun in an HVM domain, since we will eventually need a profiler for HVM domains to track down areas of poor performance. (HVMs have poor performance? :) ) Being relatively new to OProfile, Xenoprof, and Xen internals, I would appreciate any pointers, tips, and comments on how to work the implementation. I see three basic areas of work. 1. Implement

486 custom kernel
Hi all, Is it possible to take the 686 CentOS 5, install that in virtual machine, install a custom kernel that is the 486 flavor, take that image and put it on a 8G CF card - insert that into a small form factor 486 class machine and have that work? I am hoping the extra instructions in a 686 (MMX, SEE etc) are not used by any libraries that I would be using (just standard stuff) and the new
