Lossy Audio Compression Research
...But the link 'The Vorbis probability model' on xiph.org is noteably
not a link. Is there any addition documentation about the psychoacoustic model
that vorbis uses?
Finally, does anyone know of similar studies that have already been
performed, either academic or not?
Thanks,

Removing Vorbis tags
Hello everyone,
Was wondering if there was an option or program somewhere that can delete all tags associated with an Ogg Vorbis file?

...n the wiki, I noticed that the Debian installation instructions are
considered out of date. Why is this? Everything in them is accurate
for contemporary Debian, modulo one minor detail.
If it's merely endorsement, I'm pretty Debian saavy and willing to
vouch for their accuracy.

Ogg and Vorbis questions
...'s the former while the latter remains possible, OggVorbis is really
awesome ::-)
And I can make an Ogg that has a Vorbis stream, and maybe a FLAC stream and
perhaps another FLAC stream in it, right? (I'd look this up on the site, but I
can't seem to reach it...)
Thanks,

An Analysis of the c't Codec Test
...ion artifacts from Ogg Vorbis.
Unfortunately, I'm scared that one day I'll be able to, and my entire CD
collection, encoded at the economical q=3.0 or less will become sick
sounding. So I kinda wuss out and just set q to 5-ish, so any difficult
to encode music has some headroom.

heard the wire protocol is pretty easy to reverse engineer. If I had

about the icecast mailing list
Hi,
<p>sorry for posting this here, but my mail would make things worse on the
icecast list. ;P
A mail daemon is spamming it because some subscribers mailbox is full.
Every bounced mail starts another notification by that stupid daemon.
I mailed tech_support@caisnet.com about the issue and got an automated
reply so far. At least my mail reached them. Let's hope they fix their

attenuated. Sounds like it was recorded through a piece of foam. Earlier this
week I check the original recording and was unable to hear it. Going through my
music, I've been able to fund a few other oggs that seems to suffer from this

Is this a known issue?

[Bridge] Ubuntu: network bridging between wireless and wired connection fails
Hi everybody,
First of all, let me say that I searched a lot on the internet. I
spent several hours sitting after my notebook, but I can't configure
my network bridge in Ubuntu. I'm really desperate, so I hope somebody
can point me out what I'm doing

[line-in.to.ogg]
hello, people!
could you advice me some kind of computer audio recording programme
to write music 'on-the-fly' from line-in sound card exit to ogg
vorbis file directly. for example, there is an 'absolute mp3
recorder', but i would like to record audio in ogg vorbis.

who needs documentation?
Okay, my responsibilities at school have recently eased up a bit, and I might
have some actual free time over the coming months. So I'd like to volunteer
my services to write some needed documentation, tutorials, FAQs, etc.
I am "fluent" in C and C++ and am not bad at Perl. I have been told I'm good
at explaining things. I am anal-retentive about grammar, syntax, and

Psycho-acoustics research
Hi.
I'm an undergraduate linguistics major and computer science minor at
the University of Colorado in Boulder, and am taking a couple classes
this semester which give me the opportunity to do a research project -
one on introductory acoustics in the physics department, and one in
the linguistics department on phonetics and phonology. I've got an
idea, but I'd like to hear from anyone

just an idea about quality evaluation
Hello
I had an idea about judging the quality of ogg vorbis
(or any other lossy codec)
I took a wave-file and encoded it to ogg.
Then decoded ogg to wav and inverted it's phase. When mixing the original
wav with the phase-inverted decoded ogg-file, any identic parts of compressed and uncompressed audio should be eliminated.
Of course there's always a "rest" of sound because

Is this just anti-Ogg FUD?
I was recently talking to a friend of mine who produces what's widely
referred to as "techno", music that's heavy on electronically generated
loops and effects, samples, and has plenty of bass.
He doesn't like ogg for a few reasons - he sent me a rather long email, and
I've stripped out the nonsense from it (he has some technically irrelevant
reasons for not liking
