Dataframe subset - why doesn't this work?
data(mtcars) mtcars[rownames(mtcars)!="Valiant",] # fails mtcars[list(rownames(mtcars))!="Valiant",] # runs but I am not getting the expected result With the latter statement, I expected all rows except the one where the name is "Valiant". I must have got something simple wrong; what is it? Thanks. [[alternative H...

How to limit master browser to a specific network
Hi. I am running Samba 3.0.22-1 on a Fedora Core 4 system. While troubleshooting an unrelated issue I noticed the following while "tailing" the message log: Apr 24 16:57:37 valiant nmbd[1864]: [2006/04/24 16:57:37, 0] nmbd/nmbd_become_lmb.c:become_local_master_stage2(396) Apr 24 16:57:37 valiant nmbd[1864]: ***** Apr 24 16:57:37 valiant nmbd[1864]: Apr 24 16:57:37 valiant nmbd[1864]: Samba name server VALIANT is now a local master browser for workgroup ELECTROVERT-USA on...

R-beta: Still want restart() in R
People's valiant efforts to sort out CODA aside, the burning question remains: has anybody made any headway with restart()? or any other way (and there may well be better) of trapping `fatal' errors from calls within a function. PROPOSAL: Remove SWAT in Samba 4.1
As most of you would have noticed, we have now had 3 CVE-nominated security issues for SWAT in the past couple of years. At the same time, while I know many of our users use SWAT, we just don't have anybody to maintain it inside the Samba Team. Kai has made a valiant effort to at least apply the XSS and CSRF guidelines when folks make security reports, but by his own admission he isn't a web developer - none of us are! There are many other parts of Samba that have not been substantially maintained in years, but few have the level of security exposure that...

Samba + (LDAP + Kerberos V)
So like at least a handful of people before me I have begun the valiant stugle to unify logins at my place of business. I have setup a test LDAP + Kerberos V cluster. And I have Setup a test Samba 3 PDC. What I would like to do is get Samba to handle kerberos ticket granting and authentication to the (LDAP + Kerberos V) Directory. Such that Windows is completely...

However, one thing I copied over without paying much attention was a non-quota'd spam box that has literally not been checked in at least a year: [root at nac /var/vmail/xxx.com/spork/Maildir/.Spam]# ls new/| wc -l 70501 Mail.app valiantly tried to sync this, but when I realized just how huge this was, I took the account offline and quit the app. However it seems like Dovecot is still busy doing something in that mailbox: lsof: no pwd entry for UID 5000 imap 27515 5000 7uW VREG 0,95 3372 2968764 /jails/n...

Determining if swap memory is turned off
...ties on other platforms and how to use them. I see memory.size and memory.limit for Windows -- making R less platform independent -- and they seem to work on a WinXP virtual machine I have available. However, I suspect that the memory.limit includes the swap. When I was running Windoze, I tried valiantly to get the PageFile.sys killed and found it kept being set up again despite following all the recommended steps. (I needed to avoid the plaintext of an encrypted file being "saved" for me!) I know nothing about Mac swap and how to control it. Advice welcome. Below is a crude but s...

paired t-test vs pairwise t-test
What's the difference between t.test(x, y) and pairwise.t.test()? Is it just that the former takes two vectors, whereas the latter takes a vector and a factor?

Legacy database Oracle
I am new to RoR, but totally sold to the concepts, so I have decided to use RoR to develop a web client to our Oracle-based software that our customers today use with a Windows client. At first we will develope simple things like registering to receive email newsletters, and registering/updating your name, address and telephone etc. Eventually we hope to do a more full-bodied web-side client.

Ticket tracking moved to lighthouse
Hi everyone, We''ve moved ticket tracking for the rspec project to http://rspec.lighthouseapp.com! Thanks to a valiant effort from Chad Humphries, the move was done in an evening. For those of you on the rspec-devel list, apologies for the wealth of noise in this process. I set the trackers to stop sending email and they apparently didn''t listen. For those of you who submitted tickets and were keeping an...

channel bank/multiplexer recommendation
Hello. I am totally new to this PBX/asterisk/telephony world. I understand that what I need between the T100P/E100P and the POTS analog lines is a channel bank/multiplexer? I am looking for recommendations on this type of hardware. I have been looking around and found a product from valiant communications (http://www.valiantcom.com/) and/or (http://www.oriontelecom.com/brochures/pri_isdn.pdf) VCL-PRI ISDN I would appreciate your recommendations on these or any other hardware that can do the job. I understand the above mentioned hardware has 15 cards (2 analog lines/card). Ideal...

Explain cidinternalcontexts?
Hi there, could anyone drop a short line on what "cidinternalcontexts" exactly does in voicemail.conf? The Wiki explanation isn't sufficient - at least not for me... :-> Also: How/where do I define an Operator extension? Cheers, Philipp

E100P configuration
Hi ! I am trying to configure two E100P cards, but I am a bit confused with zapta.conf in what I am trying to achieve. The * will be connected to a pstn switch with two E1 PRI lines. The E1 lines will be used for incoming calls as well as outgoing calls. My problem now is what to put in zapta.conf, I would like to group all channels from both cards together (if that's possible). Does this

Centos 6 installation memory requirements
Will (does) Centos 6 require 512Mb of memory for the GUI install like FC14 or the lower requirement of FC13? My ASUS EE 700 has ~490Mb of memory (vidoe steals some from the 512Mb base) and FC14 switches to text install and does not install any GUI, leaving the boot in test mode. I recall a message earlier that 6 is based off of 14, but not the final Anaconda, thus my question. It would be

the first name of the first column
Dear all; I need to run heatmap. Because my first column in my data is alphanumeric, I can not run as.matrix(scale(my_data)). So I need to make my data readable as in data(mtcars). In *mtcars *data the first column is alphanumeric and has no name. Thanks, Greg [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
