dtrace: invalid probe specifier
Hello, I''m a newby to dtrace and have just installed the dtrace toolkit v0.92 on a core soalris 10 1/06 installation on SUN v40z. I have tried the following commands: iotop iosnoop but I get the message dtrace: invalid probe specifier and a lot of code. At the end it says: : in action list: failed to resolve uid: Unknown variable name Could it be, that there are some things missing in the core installation?...

Re: Hot swap CPU -- shared memory (1 NUMA/UPA) v. clustered (4 MCH)
...regate throughput capable interconnect. Had the test included database benchmarks that were less linear and favored shared memory systems, then the results might have been very different. Frankly, if they wanted to make the "Linux v. Solaris" game stick, they should have taken a SunFire V40z and compared _directly_. Or at least pit a SunFire V40z running Linux against the same cluster, as the costs are very much near each other. So, in the end, I think this was a _poor_ test overall, because apples and oranges are being compared. The clustered setup has _better_ failover, the shared...

Install R-patched_2006-07-13 on i386-pc-solaris2.10 with Sun Studio 11
Dear R-developers: I'm trying to build a 64-bit R-patched_2006-07-24 on SunFire V40z with on Solaris OS 10 64-bit kernel and using Sun Studio 11 compilers. Everything runs OK until it gets to building package tools (all.R) where it fails. Bellow is how I tried it (I can provide any other additional info if needed). Any help please? Thank you very much Latchezar Dimitrov Wake Fore...

Opteron in 32-bit mode
I'm spec-ing a development server for some Haskell hackers. In particular, they need to be able to build and run the Glasgow Haskell Compiler (ghc), the x86_64 port of which isn't quite there yet. My current thought is to get an Opteron-based system, but load it (initially, at least) with the 32-bit i386 version of CentOS. That buys me near-term ghc compatibility. In the future,

Compare that to an OS that already ran on the software emulator before silicon was even out there... Solaris 10 on AMD64 is definitely less stable that Centos 4 on the same v40z... ZFS Performance Issue
This may not be a ZFS issue, so please bear with me! I have 4 internal drives that I have striped/mirrored with ZFS and have an application server which is reading/writing to hundreds of thousands of files on it, thousands of files @ a time. If 1 client uses the app server, the transaction (reading/writing to ~80 files) takes about 200 ms. If I have about 80 clients attempting it @ once, it can

large ext3 filesystem consistantly locking itself read-only
...l large ext3 file system partitions. One of them sets itself to read-only after getting journel problems. I understand that's a good thing, but obviously I need to correct the problem so that it will stop locking itself. Here are some details; OS is Redhat EL4 x86_64 running on a SunFire v40z, kernel is 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp. The disk storage in question is external, via fiber cable. The fiber HBA is a Qlogic ISP2312 connected to a Qlogic San Switch connected to four Apple Xserve Raids. There are 8 individual LUN's coming from the four XRaids, they appear on the host as /dev/sd...

OpenIPMI on a SunFire v20z
Hi all, New to the list and (mostly) new to CentOS. We have just moved from running RHEL to CentOS on our main production servers. Anyway, I am configuring a couple of new SunFire v20z servers here at the moment and trying to get the systems' management interfaces to work fully under CentOS. First issue was trying to install the openipmi RPM from the CD that came with the SunFires, this RPM

ZFS send/receive to Solaris/FBSD/OpenIndiana/Nexenta VM guest?
Hello, I''m debating an OS change and also thinking about my options for data migration to my next server, whether it is on new or the same hardware. Migrating to a new machine I understand is a simple matter of ZFS send/receive, but reformatting the existing drives to host my existing data is an area I''d like to learn a little more about. In the past I''ve asked about
