Access Denied when connect to samba box
Hi!
I have MS domain, based on MS Windows 2000 Server. I successfully joined
my samba box (Linux 2.5.53, Samba 2.2.4) to domain via smbpasswd -j
DOMAIN -r DC -Uuser%pwd.
So when I try to open Samba box via network neighbornhood I got pop-up
window with inputs of username and password, I tape valid values and got
this popup again. In samba log I see this:

using tdbsam as a backend.
I've been through several readme's and howto's and have created all the UNIX
accounts, mapped unix groups to Windows groups etc and the NT4 server sees it
as a BDC.
When I run:
net rpc getsid -S NTserver -W SCHOOL -Uuser%password (and the
credentials aren't the real ones there)
I get:
Storing SID S-1-5-WHATEVER-THE-SID-IS for Domain SCHOOL in secrets.tdb
If I then run:
net rpc vampire -S NTServer -W SCHOOL -Uuser%password
it returns "could not retrieve domain trust secret"

Backups using smbclient and smbd...
I'm trying to get a backup system going. I've got a script that will grab
all the files I need, but there are several gigs. The command line i'm
using now is:
smbclient file://server/share XXXXX -Uuser -Tc /usr/tmp/share.tar /var/log*
/usr/home* etc...
This is taking too long for all of the servers. What is the exact syntax so
I can backup changed/updated files in relation to the tar that the above
command would create? I've tried:
smbclient file://server/share XXXXX -Uuser -TcN /usr/tmp/...

KDC Lookup errors only on ads joins.
...10:09:33 AM
Subject: [Samba] KDC Lookup errors only on ads joins.
I have a RedHat Enterprise 4 server with samba 3.0.25a rpms installed
(downloaded from mirror mentioned on samba.org site). I have configured
krb5.conf & smb.conf. I can perform a kinit User@REALM.COM & net ads
status -UUser@REALM.COM perfectly fine. But when attempting to net ads
join -UUser@REALM.COM, I get an, "error on ads_startup: Cannot resolve
network address for KDC in requested realm", error. If there is a KDC lookup
problem, should it not occur globally ?

Samba and Vista Home Prem login problems
...y Samba
shares from my Vista machine and I can access the tmp folder, but I
can't log on to the user protected one. I have encrypted passwords and
password level 8. I used force user in the share definition. I can map
the drive, but I can't access it.
When I try smbclient -L \\Mybox\share -Uuser I can connect to it from
the samba machine. I'm sort of at a loss now. I've tried a lot of
stuff. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Problem trying to join SAMBA as a Domain Member
Hello,
I am working on RHEL4 update 5, using SAMBA 3.0.26a.
I am trying to configure SAMBA as a domain member in a Win2K domain. I am
using Kerberos authneticiaon (Security = ADS).
I am getting an error when I am trying to join the domain (this is the
output I get from running ?net ads join ?Uuser%password ?d10?:

password problem -- or bug?
A Redhat 6.0 linux server with Samba 2.0.6, Windows 95/98 clients.
By accident I just discovered a surprising and quite disappointing
password problem on our Samba network.
If a user on our network has a non-empty Windows password,
he is forced to supply his password to log in to the network and
gain writing privilegies -- as expected.
However, if the user has an empty Windows password, he is

unix charset = ISO-8859-15 and samba-4.6.* issue
hi all,
I am experiencing an issue where a samba server is version 4.6.* and in
smb.conf appears:
unix charset = ISO-8859-15
if a client is version 4.5, no problem.
If a client is version 4.6, smbclient fails:
