TransferLogs
Hello, i'm your product's user for 2 years. I think, it is great thing, but
for
this two years i can't find method to make transfer logs.
Increasing debug level value i can get only garbage in samba's logs.
Have Samba program some options, that can help me or i must write my own
utilite?
PS: i know about smbstatus utilite, but it isn't useful for making logs, i
think. Anyway, if you will tell me about method to make samba logs, using
smbstatus i will try to use it :)

File fragmentation
...-no-blocking-io --compress-level=9 --bwlimit=0 --stats --delete
--modify-window=2)
3. Resulting file had almost 12000 fragments.
It doesn't really surprise me since rsync grabs blocks as it needs them for
the new. I was wondering why rsync doesn't preallocate the space like copy
or other utilites do under Windows. This would insure you have the space to
create the new file plus it would reduce fragmentation since rsync would be
writing to a pre-allocated file space.
I am running the cygwin version of rsync provided be Tev at www.itefix.no

Pinging a netbios name
Does know anybody a small, little, beatiful (and cheap) software
replacement of PING utility for pingins machines with netbios name and with
ip number and without DNS entry?
Smbclient and nmblookup work fine, but I thinking in a utilitity like PING
of windows95. This ping is capable to work in WINS (NETBIOS) and ip and
name translation.
The ping of linux dont work in this way. Samba wor...

problem with raid assembly
The klibc based early-userspace utilites I am using have the ability
to bring up a raid device before control is passed to kinit. This is
done in the case that one needs to do something else to the root
device (i.e. it's encrypted or an lvm volume). That's fine and dandy,
except that kinit reports a mess of errors about the de...

embedded fs access?, was Re: Booting ISOs
...he custom patches immediately, before transferring control to the
normal boot scripts)
I believe this could be implemented in a fairly elegant way in syslinux,
and would actually be useful in a multitude of situations.
If I were to start to invest the time, I'd start looking at the isodump
utilitity which now appears to be able to dump the bits from a
particular file from an iso image specified by path. Then try to glue
that code into isolinux so that it could dump the bits of the kernel and
the initrd into memory from the embedded iso image, rather than
reading them from the primary...

samba virtual server x domain membership
....conf
[work]
path=/mnt/work
And then I created /etc/samba/smb-lnxservteste.conf
[global]
workgroup = IBP
netbios name = lnxservteste
[teste]
path = /mnt/teste
Should I point net join or smbpasswd to smb-lnxservteste.conf file? Or
should I change the local hostname to tool those utilites? Or isn't this
setup supposed to work? No "samba virtual server" tutorial I found on
google told about domain membership. :-(
And by the way, will the need to use "smb ports = 139" prevent Windows 7
clients from using my servers? So far I tried with only Windows XP cl...

Strange Fedora Booting problem: can not mount "LABEL=*" partitions
...v/hd?; e2label /dev/hd? <LABEL>" again even there is no problem with file system, journal node and ext2 label, then reboot.
SInce we have several hundreds of RH8 machines to upgrade to Fedora, we can not endure to fix booting problem one by one, So where is the problem? File system utilites? 2.4.25 kernel? or the libata patch?
The machines has Fedora Core 1 with all packages upgraded: util-linux-2.11y-29, e2fsprogs-1.34-1, 2.4.25+2.4.25-libata8.
The system disk's partitions were originally created under Redhat 8.0. This upgrade to FC1 is as simple as: booting the machine...

CentOS4, KDE3.3 and 128 WEP
CentOS4 standard installation.
I see that KwifiManager doesn't support 128 bit WEP which I need for other
machines on the network, which is a bit of a blow - and rather surprising
really as security should be quite a consideration on an enterprise level
system (NB RH!).
Is there a workaround? An alternative way of configuring my Belkin
F5D6020 ver 2 card? eg a cvs download that I can get

oggdec and ogg123 playing audio from an Ogg Theora+Vorbis file?
Are oggdec and ogg123 supposed to be able to extract or play audio from an Ogg
Theora+Vorbis file?
OggDec 1.0 and ogg123 from vorbis-tools 1.0.1 don't seem to be able to do so.
If the programs are not supposed to do this job now, are any improvements
planned so they can do this job in the future?
Thanks for info on this.
