If I do cat /dev/usb/hiddev0 the system seems to be reading on the device

If I unplug the UPS the cat /dev/usb/hiddev0 command stop working so I

New batteries and another attempt to get nut running
....
However:
gene at coyote:/etc/init.d$ ps axu|grep nut
nut 31366 0.0 0.0 2256 524 ? Ss 14:01 0:00 /sbin/upsd
gene 31740 0.0 0.0 3488 764 pts/6 S+ 14:09 0:00 grep nut
says upsd is running. From that I get that generic-usb is the wrong driver.
I tried to use usbview to determine the correct driver, but it says none
of the stuff it needs is compiled into this 3.4-9-amd64 kernel.
So how to I best proceed thru this cornfield maze of getting a functional
install?
Thanks Charles.
Cheers, Gene Heskett

Looks like the Tripplite SMART1500SLT support borked?
Back in July I succeeded in getting my SMART1500SLT to work with help
from folks on the list and changes someone made in subversion. I just
checked out the latest code from subversion and it stopped working after
a reboot. It looks like usbhid-ups won't load now:
# usbhid-ups -a tripplite
Network UPS Tools: 0.29 USB communication driver - core 0.34 (2.3.0-1555)
No matching HID UPS found

New batteries and another attempt to get nut running
...NUT driver I think you are looking for is
"usbhid-ups".
If that works, we can try to tweak the text in the HCL, so that it is
easier to look up based on the markings on the UPS:

Not familiar with usbview. NUT has its own nut-scanner tool (not
included in Debian, AFAIR), but I don't know that we interface with
other driver scanning tools.

Nut with Powercom iCute ICT-530U (USB)
Hi!
Is there any user of nut having this type of UPS? (
http://www.pcmups.com.tw/product/iCute.html)
It works nice under windows and also is detected under Linux and installed
as USB HID device. There is problem however, as the software provided by its
manufacturer (http://www.pcmups.com.tw/download/Download/UPSMON_USBV091.zip)
doesn't seem to comunicate with the UPS at all. It shows messages

Hello,
We have two APC Back-UPS RS 1500 USB stuff, and i've got a bit
