URW Fonts Description in Installation and Administration Manual
Good day,
In section A.2, the manual advises "Linux users will want the urw-fonts package". However, this package only seems to be available for RedHat Linux and Fedora Linux. What about for Debian or Ubuntu ? There is no urw-fonts package for them. Are there any other packages not mentioned that are important for these two distributions ?

font metrics updated on each program launch
...ne-20010629 on Red Hat Linux, font
metrics get updated.
I am getting fonts through the Xserver (no xfont server)
(currently M$, ghostscript, Type1, misc and 75dpi fonts)
Is this behaviour normal?
Everytime this happens, I get lots of output like
fixme:font:LFD_InitFontInfo DBCS fonts like '-urw-century schoolbook
l-bold-r-normal--0-0-0-0-c-0-big5.eten-0' are not working correctly now
and

l-regular-r-normal--0-0-0-0-c-0-big5.eten-0' has unknown registry
'big5.eten' and character encoding '0'

A uws-symbol font will be read if it is going to read the adobe-symbol font.
But will not come out, if it is fonts other than adobe-symbol.

Bookman font is replaced by Courier New.
...Microsoft Word
document that I'm trying to open in TXWords? under Wine. This document
is written using the Bookman font. When I open the document in TXWords,
all the text is displayed in the Courier New font.
Bookman is available through X:
root@test04# xlsfonts -fn '*bookman*'
-urw-urw bookman l-bold-i-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-adobe-standard
[snip many similar lines]
-urw-urw bookman l-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-microsoft-cp1252
Documents with other fonts work just nicely. I have copied all the
fonts from the Fonts directory in my Microsoft Windows NT installation

plotmath problems with X11 fonts (Redhat 9)
We've only switched from redhat 7.3 to 9 several weeks ago, and
I found today, that the last three pages
of
demo(plotmath)
uses quite wrong plot symbols, e.g
sum(....) gives (+) {+ in circle} instead of the Sigma-like
summation --- but only in "text" not in title, i.e., probably a
font problem.
With postscript() {and hence dev.print() of x11()} all is fine.
Hence it must be an X
