enumerating UPSes with upsc (was Re: [Nut-upsuser] SNMP/management front-ends)

NUT developers,
The NUT protocol suppports enumerating UPSes, but this functionality
is not currently in upsc. Does anyone have any objections to adding a
"-l" option or similar to fetch this list via upsc?
We could also emulate "finger" syntax, and use "upsc @hostname" for to
list UPSes, but that syntax would be more appropria...

how normal is this temporary power loss for a single UPS?
Hi
Occasionally I get emails from my NUT system saying that one of my UPSes lost power for about a minute.
Losing power:
Date: 15. nov 2010 17.40.25 CET
regaining power:
Date: 15. nov 2010 17.41.34 CET
69 seconds later. But why? None of the 3 other UPSes reports any power loss. What is the problem?
So I made some scripts that logs the input, output and frequency at t...

Multiple UPS monitoring, relaying
Hello,
I've got a setup with NUT, where we've got two UPSes,
ups1 and ups2. UPS1 supports our servers, while UPS2
supports our desktop boxes. We monitor both of them
via USB on a box now called "upsmon".
The interesting point comes here. We monitor both
UPSes on the upsmon box, but if UPS2 fails, which
supports our desktop boxes, NUT shouldn'...

Asking hard questions about the NUT architecture
...n, upsmon and
its config files would go away but there would still be a role for
upsd and the drivers.
The rest of this note will be founded on this assumption, because
without it NUT would be *entirely* pointless.
Which brings me to my next question:
2. Why should we care about contact-closure UPSes any more?
NUT carries around a huge load of tools and documentation designed
for a class of UPSes that can't be health-monitored. All they can
do is initiate shutdown before the actual power drop, which as I've
argued above is nowadays unnecessary.
It follows that NUT could drop all s...

Bug: upssched and 3+ UPSes
Hi,
I've stumbled over a race condition in upssched when using 3 or more UPSes in combination with START-TIMER/CANCEL-TIMER.
I have a solution that works but is ugly, so I'm going to describe the bug here in the hope somebody can come up with a better solution.
The problem is in upssched.c:629 check_parent() (see https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/blob/master/client...

In APCUPSD this done by config options "BATTERYLEVEL" "MINUTES".
By what condition NUT shutdown server?

答复: I love NUT
Carsten,
This is a common issue in technology when you have complex products
that the majority of consumers of those products do not understand how
they operate.
If most UPS customers understood the importance of standardization they
would have refused to purchase non-standard UPSes and all UPSes would
have long ago standardized on a single management protocol.
The normal thing is that product manufacturers do not want standard
commodity products. They want custom, specialized products. That
creates customer lock-in.
With simple products - like a toaster or a gallon of mi...

upssched timer configuration with redundant UPSes ?
Hello list,
I have the following hardware setup:
- HP C7000 enclosure, with 4 blade servers
- two power supply modules in the enclosure (one is enough to sustain
the 4 blades)
- two UPSes, each one feeding one of the enclosure power supplies
I would like to configure NUT to initiate an early shutdown of that
environment only if *both* UPSes are on battery.
I've created the 2 "MONITOR" entries, giving 1 power supply each, and
I've set MINSUPPLIES to 1.
But since...

New APC "SMT" UPSes support MODBUS, will there be support in NUT?

About a month ago APC announced they were including MODBUS protocol
support in their new APC UPSes. The technical note on this is here:

devices are supported by blazer_usb

Scripts for monitoring NUT UPSes with Xymon
Hello everyone. I recently created a set of external scripts for the Xymon
Networking Monitor system to monitor and graph AC input voltage, AC output
voltage, battery charge %, battery voltage, and UPS Load % of UPSes managed
by the Network UPS tools (NUT) suite.
The scripts make use of the "upsc" program to poll the upsd daemon and report
the information back to the Xymon server for graphing and alerting.
For those who do not know, Xymon is an open-source network and systems
monitoring tool that is...

NUT Two Apc UPSes on Windows
Hi,
I've got a question about managing two UPSes under NUT.
I have two similar model APC usb-connected UPSes to work with, but don't
know how to manage them simultaneously from under Windows. Long story
short, my ups.conf looks like this:
--- ups.conf ---
[ups1]
driver= usbhid-ups
port= auto
serial=AS1054340323

FE700VA over USB? controlling UPSes over network?
...t up. Apparently
my DB9-to-USB cable (Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port) has
issues needing old software (setserial?) and some new software
(fconfigure) being changed. Has anyone managed to do something like this?
I'm still also interested in knowing how to control the three UPSes
I have in the house (except FE700VA not re-setup yet) over the network,
from one of them. I managed to load some webpages to monitor them but
can you shut them all off from there?

DeviceKit-power
...-cofigurable...
This UPS is not usb-hid ups, and works well with this settings in NUT:
[powercom]
desc = "powercom"
driver = powercom
port = "/dev/serial/by-id/usb-POWERCOM_CO.__LTD._USB_to_Serial-if00-port0"
type = IMP
lsusb -v fragment attached.
Unlike other UPSes, gnome-power-manager does not see this device
(after installing nut-hal-drivers in Ubuntu), and /dev/ttyUSB0 having
group "dialout" (not "nut"). I'm not guru of devkit/hal/udev
"rules.d" rules and other stuff, so, can you patch original
device-kit-power rules?
Or,...
