upsd.conf - run as user option
...id when the configuration file is processed. I hadn't noticed this until now, since most distributions tend to have a way to pass in options to their daemons (such as /etc/nut/nut.conf on Debian/Ubuntu). What we may want to do is add some comments to nut.conf for passing "-u user" in UPSD_OPTIONS. (It's in the man page for nut.conf, though.) -- Charles Lepple clepple at gmail

I'll give the nut.conf approach a try. It does look as if it will be the solution I need.

upsd.conf - run as user option
The upsmon.conf has the option of setting RUN_AS_USER username Might it be possible to add a similar option to the upsd.conf file? I see the -u command-line option for both upsmon and upsd, however, upsd doesn't seem to carry that to the configuration file, as upsmon does. Thanks.

...e in a test environment with OpenSSL support instead of LibNSS and it worked right away without trouble, provided I supplied the PEM "crt + key" combo file. Back to the regular distro packages, I really tried hard to understand what was wrong until I managed to get it working! Putting - UPSD_OPTIONS="-D" - in /etc/nut/nut.conf and "service nut-server restart" (which does not detach from the shell of course) made the whole system work! "upsmon" was happy as well as "upsc TEST" too! Shell# upsc TEST Init SSL without certificate database Connecting in SSL...

...ail to handle SSL stuff while working flawlessly without detaching? I thought start-stop-daemon was involved because it closes stdin/stdout file descriptors after exec()'ing the daemon. I tried "--no-close" option to no avail. After that, I validated the init script working fine with UPSD_OPTIONS="-D" in /etc/nut/nut.conf. To my understanding, the problem lies only within "upsd". When working (or not), "upsc" and "upsmon" are affected the same way with the same result which makes sense. Now you have the whole story with the gory details. If you need...

cyberpower ups need to manully turn on the switch
Hi I am using centos 6.3, and nut-2.6.5-2.el6.x86_64. could you explain why not sending "a delayed command to the UPS to turn it off" may cause that issue? I saw: ups.delay.shutdown: 20 ups.delay.start: 30 is it something related? thanks min On Sat, May 7, 2016 at 3:44 PM, Roger Price <roger at rogerprice.org> wrote: > On Sat, 7 May 2016, Min Wang wrote: > > Hi
